Knee Walking
One of my one-year-old twins (born two months premature) has started
walking on her knees. She crawls fine, but when she has stuff to carry, she gets on her knees and "walks", carrying her loot in her little hands. She's gotten quite good at it. It's funny to watch, but I'm a little concerned that it may be developing her muscles in such a way which might lead to problems later, when she does start to walk. She does all the other "normal" stuff as well: crawling, cruising, etc. When she does walk, she's very pointy-toed, but apparently that's not unusual, especially for preemies who tend to have high tone. Anyone seen this? |

Knee Walking
Ooh -- I've almost seen this. Thanks for bringing back funny memories.
Chris started walking on his knees at about 15 months (14 adjusted). He had been crawling for a while at that point, but wasn't yet walking. His sister had just started walking, so I think this was his way of keeping up with her. She would toddle from the livingroom to the kitchen, and he would walk on his knees, right behind her. It made for some very cute video. It never did him any harm, though he wore out the knees in a lot of pants. Enjoy it. After a couple of months of it, Chris decided to try walking on his feet instead. As for your daughter, if she is consistently walking on her toes, keep an eye on this -- I think it's worth gently working with her to transition to her feet. Knee Walking
Our orthopedic surgeon from children's said toe walking was VERY common in
toddlers and he called them little "werewolves." They eventually get tired of toe walking and the transition takes place on their own. When wearing tennis shoes they can't toe walk so I'm sure she'll soon become tired of trying. Shirley Chris and Kathleen 1/95 "Julie" wrote in message ... Ooh -- I've almost seen this.
