Default where 2 live in CA?

We just got back from 10 days in CA. We love the weather and area,
especially northern CA. Any suggestions on a good place to live with good
schools?

My daughter now wants to look at colleges there next summer but she likes
southern CA.
Thanks,
Mary E.

It depends on your definition of a "good" place to live!

Do you want urban, suburban, or rural? Coastal or mountain or valley? What's
your housing budget? Do you want hotter, drier weather or a more temperate
climate? What's your housing budget? (Most people moving to CA from other
areas have major sticker shock.) Do you want small schools or larger, more
diverse ones? A more liberal or more conservative community? Where are you
going to work and what kind of commute will be acceptable to you?

To look up schools in CA go to www.greatschools.net
and click on California (or which ever state you are interested in.)
It says Napa has some good schools, if that's the area you are
interested in.

Northern California, or rather, the SF bay
area has the highest unemployment rate in California, which
has the higher unemployment rate than average in the US at
6.9% so you need to be very diligent in looking
for employment. There isn't really a shortage of anything
anymore. Teachers and engineers are being laid off in droves,
where just a few years back they were in such demand they were
getting courted.

Southern California is slightly better on the job front, but
has one truly huge school district (LA Unified)
with quite the range of schools. You might want to stay
outside of that if looking in LA.

We like the Napa Valley area. As in "good schools", a school district

that
is rated well and positively influences real estate value.

I know the cost of living is higher in CA than other areas. Just would

like
a general idea of an area that is safe and has a reputable school

district.
This would be a starting point in where to look for employment.

Thanks!

I posted here a long time ago and am lurking but had to post to this. My
husband and I just got back from 10 days in Southern CA (San Juan
Capistrano) and *loved* it. We're military (in NC) so we can't just move
but I'd love to be stationed at Camp Pendleton (Oceanside). We basically
drove from San Juan Capistrano to San Diego and back. Loved all of it
(except the traffic and prices but I could deal with it - lol).

I say do it, move! Lol. Good luck
