Didn't we have some "truth in sentencing" laws way back here. If you're
going to sentence him to three years then sentence him to three years
don't hold a treat out in front of a three-legged dog and then make him
jump for the thing. That's just plain cruel.

More than that when I followed that link to the article I found the
comments interesting (as well as depressing).

Being caught in this NCP money trap for 14 years now I forget the
assumptions the innocent outsiders have:

The judge ruled....so he must owe this!

It must be from years of non-payment....

No consideration of how easily this can snowball, especially if you
lose your job and in most states loss of a job is not sufficient
grounds for a reduction in child support. I love that one! How many
intact families say the main breadwinner lost his job but no
worries...we'll continue spending exactly as before.

Also zero consideration of the CP providing any financial contribution.

I am as guilty of this as anyone but we do spend too much time talking
to one another vs trying to get outsiders to understand what is going
on.

Anyway it helped remind me how society views NCP's.

I'll go back to being grateful I've never (yet) been jailed for the
crime of fatherhood.
