Default mind wandering... weight

I've put on about 45 pounds this pregnancy. I'm uncomfortable, as my
feet and hips ache, it hurts to get up out of my low bed, all the usual
stuff. I'm wondering: how similar is pregnancy weight gain to
non-pregnancy weight gain? I've always been on the thin side, so I don't
know what it's like to weigh 185 pounds other than while pregnant. Do
heavy non-pregnant people feel all this discomfort, or is most of it
pregnancy-related?

Just wondering...

Nope, I've weighed everywhere from 115 to 190, non-pregnant & while
clothes can be uncomfortable aand not fit you as well as when you are
thin. You body is not as comfortable as when you are thin either, but
it's _nothing_ like being pregnant.

I would think thouht that somebody in the 250+ weight range would
probably have a differing viewpoint.

I think about that often. I've only gained about 20 lbs so far, but
I've got a really achy back now and it can get hard to walk at times.
I'll see my neighbor whose beer belly is bigger than my pregnant belly
(of course he's also about 10 in taller than I) and think "How the heck
can he manage?!" (when he teased me recently about getting so big now,
I almost said "my belly is still smaller than YOURS!" but held off ;-))

I'm generally 10-20lbs overweight anyway, but small to start with. But
this is 20lbs on top of that, and about 18 of those pounds appear to be
right in front. I can't walk with my back straight, no matter how hard
I try!

I can't imagine another 15 weeks of gain...

Well, I weigh a l bit less than your pregnancy weight right now after losing
20lbs. In my experience, I think that you feel "heavier" and yes, joints can
ache when overweight but pregnancy aches and pains are different.

I started my last pregnancy at about 180 and gained about 25lbs. Over the
course of the pregnancy I became very achey and my hips were killing me, but
as soon as she was born it was gone. I only lost about ten pounds directly
from birth so I think most of it could be hormone related.

Sara, like you, the most I've ever weighed is what I weigh pregnant.

But, I can tell you that 5 or 6 years ago when I weighed 155 straight
out, it was nothing like a couple months ago when I weighed 155,
pregnant, after 20 pounds of pregnancy weight gain. I never had
swollen, sore feet, lower back pain, and severe exhaustion when I was
155 and not pregnant, but I had that and more when 155 and 5 months
pregnant.

I agree that most of it is pregnancy related -- the other issue is that most
people don't gain 45 pounds in just a few months. : ) Really, most people
gain 10 lbs a year, so it sort of sneaks up on them. But if you were to
gain 30-50 (or more) pounds in 6 months or less, I think you'd feel really
run down and ****ty as well.

I'd have to say that for me anyhow, the discomfort of being a higher weight
is pretty much all pregnancy-related.

I was over 200 pounds when I got pregnant. Yes, I was overweight, but I'm
5'11 and have a very large frame, am very healthy, was visiting the gym five
mornings a week through the first six months. The main reason I cut back and
eventually gave it up was because after awhile I was too darned tired (or
lazy?) to get up so early! Being 200+ never bothered my joints and such
before.

I've only gained about 15 pounds over the course of my pregnancy (two days
overdue now), but from about three months on maybe, my hips and back caused
me some discomfort, especially at night. Never had these problems before!

It is different (not that carrying the extra weight
doesn't have consequences). If you were just 45 pounds heavier,
it wouldn't be distributed the same way, and some of the
pregnancy issues are from loosened joints and organs being
crammed together and so on. Carrying an extra 45 pounds
certainly has consequences regardless of where it is, but
I'm sure it doesn't feel exactly like being pregnant.

Best wishes,
Ericka

I've gained nothing. I'm actually about 3-4 lbs under my pre-pregnancy
weight and 32 weeks pregnant.
I feel heavy and ungainly, have shortness of breath and my hips ache
when I lie down and try to sleep.
It's the pregnancy not the weight. I would probably feel even more
uncomfortable had I gained 20,30 or 40 lbs but even without the weight
I still suffer a good many of the discomforts of late pregnancy.
