Default 3rd pregnancy sooo much harder?!

Hi guys. I've been lurking for awhile, but decided to jump in and say hi
officially. I have two boys, 3 and 4, and I am 5 months pregnant with our
third child (a girl!). I'm just wondering if anyone else in similar
circumstances (two small kids, etc.) has experienced the third pregnancy
being soooo much harder than the others?

Yes, I'm "older" as my OB lovingly reminds me every single time I see her
(!) I'm 36. And yes, it's been 3.5 years since I've been pregnant. The
first two are 21 months apart, and though neither pregnancy was exactly a
joy a minute, they were never this hard, either. My morning sickness (I
think) is over, finally, at 22 weeks. It was awful.

But the new thing is just the physical pain of my body! The belly aches,
the legs ache. If the phone rings and I'm sitting down, I really have to
think about is it worth it? before I actually stand up and walk over to get
the phone! I never really felt any of this kind of stuff till much further
along in my other pregnancies. I'm not overweight, and I've only gained 9
or 10 pounds so far.

Okay, enough complaining. I'm just so happy to have someone to vent to.
Lord knows husbands don't want to hear it!

Also, my 3 year old has Down syndrome, and is the greatest kid in the world.
I just wanted to put that out there for anyone who is afraid of this
diagnosis, etc. Yes, it seemed like the end of the world when we heard the
news at his birth, but that lasted only a few days. The joy he has given us
over the last 3 years is indescribable, and I would not change him for the
world...

It's probably just that you are tired already from taking care of two little
ones. I have noticed that I have felt much better during this pregnancy and
the one before, because my other kids are older and take care of themselves, so
that I can nap and rest, whereas it was a lot harder when I had babies and was
pregnant at the same time.

That's wonderful, Amy. He's a lucky little boy, it sounds like.

Yes, my third pregnancy was quite a bit harder than the
first two (my first two kids were 6 and 8 at the time, and I
was 37). I was sick as a dog the first half and in pain most
of the second half. My first two were boys and my third a girl
as well ;-) All was well in the end, but it wasn't particularly
pleasant getting there.

Best wishes,

Since there's some research suggesting that excessive nausea during
pregnancy is more common when the mother is carrying a girl, I wonder if
it's not the gender of the baby rather than maternal age and/or having other
children that makes it harder, at least in some cases. I had my daughter
second, and I felt *much* worse during that pregnancy (especially in the
first trimester) than in either my first or third pregnancy (and I was 37
during my third pregnancy as well). I was never super sick or incapacited in
any of my pregnancies, but I'd certainly rate my girl pregnancy as the most
uncomfortable/unpleasant/physically difficult.

I have to second that. When I was pregnant with my daughter I felt awful! I was
so sick throughout the whole pregnancy. I can remember saying that I never
wanted to be pregnant again. At the time I had a 2 year old DS and my Dr said
that was why I was feeling so sick and tired all the time, running after him.
The Dr also contributed it to my age. I was 36 when I was pg with her. With
this last pregnancy I was not as sick but was more physically uncomfortable. Of
course my sweet angel baby weighed 8 lbs 9 ozs at birth and my first 2 were 7
lbs 3 ozs each.

Hi Amy

My third child is 11 months old now. I also have a 5.5 yo and 3.5 yo, and
I am about to turn 37. I found my third pregnancy my most difficult, the
middle trimester that I really enjoyed with my first two pregnancies
seemed so much shorter and not as comfortable. The whole experience seemed
much harder on my body, the last time.

I hope your boys enjoy their baby sister when she arrives.

Yes. My third pregnancy was hard. I had two boys and the third was a girl.
But, the delivery was sooo easy and that made up for it!

Hang in there and congratulations on your pregnancy.

Warmly,

I was so sick when pregnant with Chloe that I ended up on TPN for several
months. Although I had been quesy with my second pregnancy, I'd consider it
normal pregnancy style as opposed to the experience I had with the third.
My thought has been that girl pregnancies have a propensity towards nausea.

I think this pregnancy is harder than the ones that resulted in my 4 yr

Yes, I had extended MS this time, too. Bleah. In fact I still throw up
pretty easily. I never vomit when I'm not pregnant but just last week...
and I'm 30 weeks.

Oh, totally. I have horrible back pain, pelvic pain, shortness of breath,
it's a wreck. I make sure I have EVERYTHING with me that I need for the
night when I go to put my daughter to bed because I am NOT going up and
down the staircase an extra time!! It hurts to walk across the room. I am
too tired to participate in my 2 yr old's Little Gym class. I take her and
I sit there and veg out while she runs around and does activities and
stuff. I think I am really annoying the teacher but whatever. It IS hard
for me, for whatever reason.

Both my pregnancies were girls, and I was sick (threw up) exactly once
with each pregnancy. Apart from those incidents I don't remember
feeling unwell at all. Just couldn't drink coffee; had to switch to
tea.

Maybe if I'd had a boy, I wouldn't have thrown up even once G ...
