Homebirth (also: AMA: Is it illegal for OBs to lie?)
HOMEBIRTH
In 1995, a past-president of ACOG referred to homebirth as "child abuse." [Marsden Wagner, MD Pursuing the Birth Machine 1994. Quoted in Gaskin's interview with Wagner. Birth Gazette 1995] AMA: IS IT ILLEGAL FOR OBs TO LIE? The Florida Attorney General says, "It's illegal to lie." (See USA Today; quoted below.) Attn: AMA Medical Student Section (members listed below): URGENT: In addition to the homebirth is child abuse lie, OBs are lying to cover-up the fact that they are closing birth canals up to 30% and keeping birth canals closed when babies get stuck. See the Four OB Lies below. See also relevant AMA Principles of Medical Ethics quoted below. PREGNANT WOMEN: It's easy to allow your birth canal to OPEN the "extra" up to 30% - just roll onto your side as you push your baby out. In addition to side-lying, other alternative delivery positions (eg. hands-and-knees, kneeling, standing) also allow the birth canal to open the "extra" up to 30%. Note: You do NOT have to squat to allow your birth canal to open maximally. BEWARE though: Some OBs will let you "try" alternative delivery positions but will move you back to semisitting or dorsal (close your birth canal the "extra" up to 30%) for the actual delivery... Beware too of the fact that OBs routinely KEEP birth canals closed the "extra" up to 30% when babies get stuck. Again, see the Four OB Lies below. Attn AMA President (and obstetrician) JOHN NELSON, MD^^^ ^^^via AMA Trustee Matthew Lawyer, JD John and Matthew: AMA says: "[T]he American Medical Association (AMA) serves as the steward of medicine and leader of the medical profession...Only the AMA has the national voice, the reputation and the stature to be a strong advocate for physicians and their patients." http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/1912.html John and Matthew: AMA should be a strong advocate for the TINIEST patients: Women should not have to ASK for the "extra" up to 30%. Most women aren't even hearing about it! Fortunately, women are starting to discuss the "extra" up to 30%... Kathy Claytor wrote: Yes, estimation of weight by u/s in late term is not very accurate. My sister is very tiny 5' tall and narrow hips. Her second child was a 10 lb boy despite all other babies in all extended family for generations had been below 8 pounds. Big babies just happen sometimes I guess. She did try to birth him, but he just wouldn't budge, so she had a c-section. I can't help but think of Todd's saying that not laying on the back opens up the birth canal by 30% and wonder if she would have been able to birth him in another position, but what's done is done. It didn't damage my sister to try to birth him though. http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...84ff425dd310d5 I thank Kathy for mentioning the 30%. : ) Remember though: It's *UP TO* 30%. Fortunately, in many women semisitting and dorsal close the birth canal significantly less than 30%. I personally think that there is another factor which is equally important: Semisitting and dorsal delivery very likely NEUROLOGICALLY INHIBIT LABOR because the sacroiliac joints are being torqued the WRONG way (the birth canal is being closed). Some women say it HURTS to deliver semisitting or dorsal - which makes sense and accords with Michel Odent's notion that during Ferguson's "fetus ejection reflex" mothers who are allowed to labor feeling unobserved SPONTANEOUSLY get off their sacra. Women are birthing machines with "gears" that WORK. Obstetricians are bizarrely throwing a delivery position "wrench" in the "gears." Todd Dr. Gastaldo PS This is NOT to say that allowing the birth canal to open the "extra" up to 30% will prevent all birth problems - it won't. It is just bizarre that OBs are closing birth canals up to 30% - and keeping birth canals closed the "extra" up to 30% when babies get stuck - and lying to cover-up. Actually, the OB lying isn't all that bizarre. Look at the gravity of the crime - and I do mean crime, Larry. Misc.kids.pregnancy subscriber Larry McMahan says it's not criminal - just a "sin" - LOL! Larry says closing birth canals the "extra" up to 30% "is quite well protected practice legally because...'everybody' does it..." http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...a9927fa20c2287 Like OBs, Larry is standing on "community norm"/"standard of care" - pretending that it is legal for OBs to LIE to cover-up their bizarre birth-canal-closing behavior. It is DEFINITE crime - it is mass assault and battery committed against BABIES... OBs are KEEPING birth canals closed the "extra" up to 30% as they pull with hands, forceps and vacuums... Sometimes they rip spinal nerves out of tiny spinal cords. Some babies die - some babies get paralyzed - most "only" have their spines gruesomely wrenched. ALL spinal manipulation is gruesome with the birth canal closed the "extra" up to 30%. And then there are the OB assaults and batteries on WOMEN. OBs are slicing vaginas/abdomens en masse (episiotomy/c-section) - surgically/fraudulently inferring they are doing/have done everything possible to open birth canals - even as they close birth canals up to 30%. THE FOUR OB LIES OB LIE #1. After MASSIVE change in the AP pelvic outlet diameter was clinically demonstrated in 1911 and radiographically demonstrated in 1957, the authors of Williams Obstetrics began erroneously claiming that pelvic diamaters DON'T CHANGE at delivery. OB LIE #2. After Ohlsen pointed out in 1973 that pelvic diameters DO change - the authors of Williams Obstetrics began erroneously claiming that their most frequent delivery position - dorsal - widens the outlet. OB LIE #3. After I pointed out in 1992 that dorsal CLOSES - and so does semisitting - the authors of Williams Obstetrics - put the correct biomechanics in their 1993 edition - but kept in their text (in the same paragraph!) - the dorsal widens bald lie that first called my attention to their text... OB LIE #4. OBs are actually KEEPING birth canals closed when babies get stuck - and claiming they are doing everything to allow the birth canal open maximally. (ACOG Shoulder Dystocia video - also forceps and vacuum births are performed with the mother in lithotomy.) See Make birth better: Dan Rather, before you leave CBS... http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...t/message/2983 I noted some of the OB lies in an Open Letter to the FTC years ago... http://home1.gte.net/gastaldo/part2ftc.html RELEVANT AMA PRINCIPLES OF MEDICAL ETHICS.... "[AMA physician[s] shall...strive to expose those physicians...who engage in fraud or deception." "[AMA p]hysician[s] shall...seek changes in those requirements which are contrary to the best interests of the patient." "[AMA p]hysician[s] shall...make relevant information available to patients, colleagues, and the public..." http://www.psych.org/psych_pract/eth...nions53101.cfm SCARING WOMEN OFF? PREGNANT WOMEN: This is no small matter. Please talk to your OB today. Make sure that he or she will not use a delivery position that closes your birth canal up to 30% during vaginal delivery. Larry McMahan, mentioned above, doesn't think what OBs are doing is criminal. Larry McMahan adamantly insists that I am scaring women off by by pointing out the obvious LIES of obstetricians - and saying that what OBs is doing is CRIMINAL. Now, to be sure, law enforcement officers are not prosecuting OBs - but that is NOT what determines crime. Assault and battery against women ("wife-beating") was always a crime before men (police and DAs) started making arrests and prosecuting. Regardless whether knowingly closing birth canals up to 30% is a crime, women shouldn't have to ASK for the "extra" up to 30% - that's just the way it is - so pregnant women should talk to their OBs today. Remember: OBs themselves have indicated that closing the birth canal FAR LESS than 30% can KILL. AGAIN LADIES: This is no small matter. Please talk to your OB today. Make sure that he or she will not use a delivery position that closes your birth canal up to 30% during vaginal delivery. OK TO DELIVER SEMISITTING? Some women (on misc.kids.pregnancy) have indicated they think it's OK to birth semisitting because their babies came through "just fine." I disagree. There is nothing that can be done after the fact - but the fact is - an estimated 4.6% of "healthy" term neonates are born with unexplained brain bleeds and - in addition to the unexplained deaths and unexplained paralyses - there is the matter of lesser motor and perceptual deficits discovered 4 years later... A POINT OF AGREEMENT? My sense is that ALL women will agree with me that once the OB starts pulling with hands, forceps or vacuum - the woman should definitely not be on her sacrum/semisitting or dorsal closing her birth canal the "extra" up to 30%. AMA PRESIDENT IS AN OBSTETRICIAN: JOHN NELSON, MD According to the front page story in the March 3, 2005 USA Today, there is a doctor shortage: "Even the American Medical Association (AMA)...has abandoned its long-standing position that an 'oversupply exists'... The article quotes AMA President John Nelson, a Salt Lake City obstetrician: "The truth is, we don't know if there's a shortage of physicians..." Kevin Grumbach, MD of San Francisco General Hospital was quoted: "Investing billions of dollars to produce more doctors is a foolish way to spend money. Don Detmer, MD of the Institute of Medicine was quoted: "Doctors create their own demand." Richard Cooper, MD of the Medical College of Wisconsin was quoted: "Doctors don't drive medical costs...Sickness does." Doctors (including and especially OBs) are driving a LOT of sickness! Doctors have ANTI-SCIENTIFICALLY libeling their homebirth midwife competitors as child abusers! In 1977, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) publicly libeled homebirth as "child abuse" [Ob.Gyn.News Oct1,1977] In 1993, a representative for 3500 California ACOG members stated that California physicians had rejected collegial relationships with licensed midwives - and had held out for physician supervision of them - in order to discourage homebirths. [Ob.Gyn.News Sep15,1993] In 1995, a past-president of ACOG referred to homebirth as "child abuse." [Wagner Pursuing the Birth Machine 1994. Quoted in Gaskin's interview with Wagner. Birth Gazette 1995] As I noted for recently... Before an American woman ever gets to a hospital, she is SCARED into thinking she MUST go there to birth - by "necessary" c-section stories and other fear-mongering by organized medicine and the affiliated "health" insurance industry. Meanwhile, OBs blithely close birth canals up to 30% and keep birth canals closed when babies get stuck - CAUSE cephalopelvic disproportion and failure to progress then perform c-sections BEcause of cephalopelvic disproportion and failure to progress. This bizarre OB birth behavior increases birth FEAR - which increases insurance business - which increases hospitalization of birth in our culture. C-sections are certainly necessary sometimes - but OBs and insurance companies are fraudulently increasing the number of "necessary" c-sections. American medicine's most frequent surgical behavior toward females - mass vagina slicing (routine episiotomy) - involves OBs surgically/fraudulently inferring they are doing everything possible to open the birth canal even as they close it up to 30%. Mass vagina slicing/routine episiotomy is known to increase severe perineal tears by 50X - and perineal tearing is the most common reason for hospitalization of women after they leave the hospital: "The most common diagnosis for hospitalization among all women is trauma to perineum due to childbirth." http://www.ahcpr.gov/data/hcup*/factbk3/factbk3.htm In addition to temporarily asphyxiating babies by keeping birth canals closed the "extra" up to 30% when babies get stuck... OBs are also temporarily asphyxiating babies another way - immediately clamping umbilical cords thereby robbing EVERY CESAREAN SECTION BABY of up to 50% of blood volume - this last according to retired obstetrician George Malcolm Morley, MB ChB FACOG. OBs may be causing some cases of AUTISM and CEREBRAL PALSY by routinely robbing babies of up to 50% of their blood volume, according to Dr. Morley. See OBs are PERPETRATORS (says Larry - I think)... http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...1fafb3673b1501 OBs are also - in effect - denying massive numbers of babies massive numbers of free daily immunizations - by failing to tell pregnant women that if they breastfeed they are IMMUNIZERS who (reportedly) make MD-needle vaccinations work better. What woman - explicitly informed that she can IMMUNIZE her baby daily - and (reportedly) make MD-needle vaccinations work better - is going to fail to at least ATTEMPT to breastfeed? OBs are mysteriously ignoring a SIMPLE way to make the breastfeeding (immunization) and vaccination rates skyrocket! See Breasts as doctors (also: Medical Veritas) http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...325ac661f5807f OBs are driving a LOT of "sickness" (!) - and "earning" BILLIONS of dollars per year in the process.... PERTINENT QUOTE: "Thus I say that most men only care for science so far as they get a living by it, and they worship even error when it affords them a subsistence." --Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832) THE AMERICAN MEDICAL RELIGION... "Religion comprises all, extends to all [including] ethics, law, the principles of political organization, and even science." --Durkheim E: Division of Labor, p. 135 "JOINING THE AMA IS LIKE JOINING A CHURCH..." "There is one quotation that captures the essence of what membership in both the AMA and our state medical associations is all about...'Joining the AMA is like joining a church...' [Hopkins D reviewing Campion FD: The AMA and U.S. Health Policy Since 1940, 1984, Review Press: Chicago, IL. In Western J Med, 1985;142(2):273] KEY POINT ABOUT THE AMA... A federal appeals court had to order the American medical religion's largest diocese (the AMA) to let individual MDs and individual hospitals make "individual decisions." [Wilk CA. Medicine, monopolies, and malice. Garden City Park, NY: Avery 1996] Of course, letting MDs make "individual decisions" is no solution because: "[T]he intellectual foundation of medical care...is...whatever a physician decides is by definition correct." [Eddy DM. The challenge. (Jan12)1990 JAMA] OBs are deciding to LIE to cover-up massive crime against mothers and babies. "The cruelest lies are often told in silence." --Robert Louis Stevenson Virginibus Puerisque OBs are lying in silence - babies be damned. IN USA TODAY... As indicated above, Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist was quoted saying: "It's illegal to lie." [Quoted by Julie Appleby. USA Today. 2005(Mar3):3B] The Florida Attorney General also was quoted saying: "It's illegal to inflate billings beyond what they really were." OBs are inflating SUFFERING (sometimes inflating death and paralysis)... See above. I'LL ASK AGAIN... AMA: IS IT ILLEGAL FOR OBs TO LIE? It is definitely UNETHICAL - see the relevant AMA Principles of Medical Ethics above. AMA President (and obstetrician) John Nelson, MD: It is time to stop all the grisly obstetric tomfoolery. As usual, I am in favor of pardons in advance for MDs. As medical students, MDs are TRAINED to perform felonies. Speaking of MD training... The March 3, 2005 USA Today front page article quoted above indicates that recently graduated medical students in obstetric residencies are receiving from Medicare $35,000 to $50,000 per year. Hospitals get from Medicare a total of $11 billion annually to train 100,000 residents - roughly $110,000 per year per resident. THINK ABOUT IT: Medicare is right now paying recently graduated medical students in obstetric residencies to close birth canals up to 30% and keep birth canals closed when babies get stuck. Thanks for reading everyone. Sincerely, Todd Dr. Gastaldo Copied to: Steven Slosberg, Staff Columnist, The New London Day (Connecticut) http://www.theday.com via Steven, thanks for your March 3, 2005 column about your "Quack Hunter" first cousin Robert S.
