I tried to give Alli (8 months) some of the YoBaby stonyfield farms yogurt today. She's trying to self-feed, so I'm doing the "feed the baby, wash the baby" method right now. Well a little bit into feeding she started to SCREAM. Everywhere the yogurt fell and hit skin or soaked to skin, she looks burned! I washed it off, but she's still really red and inflamed. I'm watching for other allergy symptoms (of COURSE I was stupid enough to start a new food after the peds office was closed for the night) The yogurt tastes OK to me (although WAY too rich for my tastes), so I don't think anything's wrong with it. She's had some dairy before-she was on formula for supplementing while we got my supply up initially, since it took almost a week after she was born to figure out her sucking issues and to start pumping, without problems, and she's also had ice cream a few times (Daddy is a wimp when it comes to a baby reaching for what he's eating) without problems. I've never heard of a child being allergic to yogurt without being allergic to milk, but that's the only thing I can think of. Any ideas?? Which flavor was it? It might be one of the other ingredients. Laura |

Allergic to yogurt?

Try getting some plain yogurt...then add whatever you want to flovor it...it's a little easier to know what is in it that way. (of course...you'd probably just try dabbing the plain yogurt on a small spot of skin and see if she has the same reaction. I hope she doesn't...plain yogurt is *wonderful* for sunburns) annette |

Stonyfield doesn't use MSG & annatto is fairly frequently an allergin. i'm not sure why they use that in the YoBaby. it's not like yogurt needs to be any color but whitish. personally i find the thought of banana flavored yogurt repulsive. i only bought the peach or vanilla (which used to be packed together. now they pack each with some weird flavor like pear or banana) or plain. i buy plain in the quarts because Boo loves it, with no added sugar or anything (of course he'll also snarf down sour cream by the pint if i'd let him...). if you start them as babies, they won't think yogurt needs to taste like candy. lee -- war is peace freedom is slavery ignorance is strength 1984-George Orwell |

Everywhere the yogurt fell and hit skin or soaked to skin, she looks burned! Has she had *any* other dairy since she was tiny? If not, this is probably milk allergy, and pretty severe. Bananas: Unlikely. It could be the acidity--Miss Shiny has decided that I may not eat anything with citric acid or any citrus fruit (and vitamin C is *fine*) because she gets a chemical-burn-butt rash. Jenrose |
