Default scratchy pinchy hands rant

I cut the moos nails every other day but he still manages to scratch
me to bits when I nurse him.

He is in the habit of kneading, pulling and pinching me while he
drinks.

Any ideas to stop this? gloves?

I know what you mean. It doesn't matter how often I cut my daughter's
fingernails, they're always talons! I give her a cloth diaper to hold
while she's nursing. That way the diaper gets some of the abuse.

I've also tried a nursing necklace (in my case, wooden beads on a length
of string or a leather shoelace), but she tends to get distracted and
want to play with that instead of nursing. So I get the *drink drink*
*pop off, play with the necklace* *drink drink* bit. The diaper doesn't
distract her.

Any advice on how to stop her from climbing up me, grabbing my breast
and shoving it in her mouth? (yeah yeah, it's cute now at 8 mos old.
But I can see it getting old quickly!)

I use little mittens.

I always had a hard time with those little mittens. Ds was big and the
openings on the mittens were for much daintier babies than mine. But a
pair of baby's socks worked just fine! We also had these little tiny,
really fine grit baby emery boards, which were great for taking away any
of those little sharp edges left over from the clippers. I hope I can
find those emery boards again, they were handy.

I've been dealing with this for months now. I tried giving toys, but
those ended the nursing session. What worked for me is to always hold
my breast with my hand, and let her play with my hand instead of my
breast. She used to still try to get to my breast, but eventually she
gave up. If my hand is not there, she immediately starts pinching my
breast again. With my hand she seems to be happy doing other things
besides pinching it. She frequently massages my knuckles. If she
does pinch my hand I sqirm it away from her, so she ends up preferring
to massage the knuckles instead.

He is so easily distracted, I have to nurse in a dark room with no
other people around unless he is really hungry and really tired. I
can see the necklace being another distraction but it's worth a go. I
have tried various toys, tucked between us, and I wrap my tshirt as
close as I can without suffocating him but he just wants flesh.

He climbs up me but just headbuts my boob instead of shoving it in his
mouth and yes, it has got old quickly! No ideas there either :-)

Ditto on the socks. DS is always pulling them off his feet anyway, so I
stick on his hands (so I don't lose them).

No ideas, but sympathy. Caterpillar does the exact same thing. I keep
unlatching her hands, but then she decides to do the same thing to my nose.

Have you tried letting him grip your thumb? I always grabbed DS' hand and
moved it off of me when he started to knead or pinch my breast or arm, and
usually he would twine his fingers around mine. I quickly discovered that if I
just let him hold onto my hand or thumb, he wouldn't pinch anything more
sensitive. :-)
