Does anyone know of any studies regarding divorce and childs well-being?
I am looking for some reliable resources comparing how children fair
in a bad marriage (simply unhappy-not physically or verbally abusive) compared to an amicable divorce with shared custody. I would also be interested in how children in this situation fair if the father has an affair and gets caught? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks |

Thanks I'm not sure that there is anything, but I'm no expert either. What I can tell you is this: I am a child of a bad marriage. Yes, my parents argued a lot, and often very loudly. But my parents made sure to tell me that I had nothing to do with their arguments and their eventual divorce. Knowing that I was not responsible was a great comfort to me, even though I was only 10. Apparently, too many parents get caught up in the arguments and divorce proceedings to sit down with their children and explain what is happening, why it's happening, and most importantly, that the children are *not* responsible. About the father's affairs? Keep that between you and your hisband during the divorce. Your children need to know that you and he still love them. It's just that you and he don't love eachother anymore. DO NOT tell the children about the affair, now or later. That will only be eventually regarded as you trying to turn your children against their father. Sorry this isn't the results of some objective study. But it is experience from somebody who's been there. HTH Bill |

Why would the children know about the affair unless the wife wants to get
even by turning the children against the father even though exposing the affair emotionally damages the children. The statistics you need on fatherless homes are at http://www.fathersrights.org. Think of the kids instead of your hurt pride. wrote in message oups.com... Thanks Actually, though I may have implied it was my husband that had the affair, this is not the case. I am truly trying to help someone I care about do what is best for his kids and himself, though he has no clue what that is at this point in time. Lisa |
