We've got a serious problem here. All that cramping I've been having wasn't
ligaments pulling, and it wasn't just "normal" cramping. I'm having pre-term
contractions and possibly pre-term labor. The contractions are about 2
minutes apart. Sometimes they are stronger than others.

So, this might be the end of the road. My doctor said that he wouldn't do
anything to stop it. He said there would be no point in it because I'm only
20 weeks. He said he'd try to get me in to see a doctor in St Louis as soon
as possible, but that may take a couple weeks. He suggested that I transfer
my care to another OB if I thought there was something else that could be
done. I think I'm going to do that, because I can't just sit here and let
these babies die. There has to be SOMETHING that can be done. He wouldn't
even check my cervix!

I'm waiting on a call from another doctor to get a second opinion. Surely
something can be done to stop it.

Not sure what to make of your doctor's comments, but there are certainly
things you can do to put off labor; including medications and bed rest. I'm
not sure exactly what the medical situation is, but I'd demand better care
and do whatever it takes to save those precious babies you've got in there.

Definitely don't just do nothing. You fought too hard to have them in the
first place.

Good luck, hang in there, we'll be praying for you.

OMG! He's gotta do something. Maybe its illogical, but after your loss
he's a callous ass (excuse my language) to say what he did. Please find
another doctor who will at least be a little bit compassionate.

Oh, Crystal! {{{{Hugs}}}}} This is just awful!

I think it is absurd that he won't check your cervix--this can even be done
with a simple ultrasound. There *are* things that can be done to try to keep
those babies in there (medications that can slow the contractions, bedrest,
etc.) and *especially* if your water hasn't broken, it's *far* from
hopeless.

You may be in for a long haul, though. You could wind up on bedrest/drug
therapy for the remainder of the pregnancy, but if that's long enough to
keep the babies in until they're viable, it will be worth it!

Hang tight, honey! I'm crossing everything for you and those babies!

Oh no!

Get another doctor, quickly!!! I had premature contractions
at 19 weeks. My doctor told gave me IV fluids, just in case
it was simple dehydration causing them (it was a combination
of dehydration and UTI), gave me antibiotics, and prescribed
5 months of bedrest. If the contractions did not stop after
my night in the L&D room (remember, at 19 weeks), they would
have given me drugs to stop the contractions. It seemed like
every nurse who came by checked my cervix to make sure it
was still closed.

What I would do in your place is go to the ER. They _have_
to take care of you there. You need medical intervention RIGHT
NOW! Don't wait until the contractions/labour proceed beyond
the stopping point!

There is a LOT they can do to keep your babies inside for
awhile yet.

There are things that can be done and it seems rather callous and just
horrid for him to be so rude. With my son the first time I went into labour
was at 21 weeks, then at 27 weeks, then at 30, 32, and finally gave birth to
him at 34 weeks. It was a LONG haul, but my doctor worked very hard to keep
him inside and cooking. Yes a second opinion and hang in there.

I know very little about these issues, but I sure
as heck would get a second opinion on this one. Ask around
to find out who's best at high risk pregnancies in your area,
and ask to get an appointment ASAP. I'll have my fingers
crossed for you.

Best wishes,
Ericka

Sure enough things can be done! As for yourself, trying to stay relaxed
(as much as you can) will help, plus make sure you get enough to drink.
I'll cross fingers and toes for you that all will be well!

I don't want to be one of those people who is a pain by offering hope and
opinions etc in cases like this. I just want you to know that my prayers and
thoughts are with you and I hope everything ends up being okay.

My friend just delivered healthy twin boys, and the very same thing happened
to her. She had contractions starting about the same time, 20 weeks. She
mentioned the pains to her doctor, who didn't think much of them. Her
husband took her to the ER a few days later when she kept having them and
they found out it was actual contractions and she was 1cm dilated. They put
her right into the hospital and on bedrest and gave her an IV I think, to
stop the contractions. She stayed in the hospital in bedrest all that time.
She made it to just a few weeks before her due date before giving birth and
everything worked out. It really scared me for her.

Whatever you end up doing, you are in my thoughts...I am sorry you are going
through this and I pray for a happy ending. I am sending my very best vibes
to you....and more prayers and more thoughts!

Jill

I think you are very wise to find someone who will spend more time with you
and really try to find out exactly what is going on. With your past history,
you OB should be more sympathetic and proactive. Good luck. ((((Lisa))))
