Default white spots

Moving right along . . . DS (2 months) has a few white dots inside of
his lower lip. Looks almost like stuck-on spit up. They do scrape
off with persistence. I expected patches with thrush, but these spots
are small. My end of things isn't very helpful, or maybe it is? BF
has been not painful but uncomfortable on the left side since about 3
weeks after he was born. Often fine, but sometimes, especially when
it had been a long time since he nursed, quite uncomfortable. Ok,
painful. I think it is painful, I've just been too stoic about it.
I thought then, 5 weeks ago or so, that it might be thrush deep in a
duct. Now he has white spots (for the past 3 days or so), and both
breasts . . it feels like my nipples are asleep, very tingly with
every suck. Uncomfortable.
Any ideas? Are these two things related?
Thanks so much,
Hannah

It certainly could be thrush. Kellymom has a page of resources:

http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/...resources.html

When I had thrush my nipples were pink, kind of shiny and
I had terrible pain, especially during latch on. I used Gentian
violet to clear it up. DD never got white spots in her mouth
so I don't know what those look like. The white spots would
be enough for me to see my pediatrician, if confirmed they can
give the baby something and maybe you too (or I'm sure your
doctor would perscribe if the baby does have it).

Good luck!

Mary

Sounds a lot like thrush even if the spots are small. The fact that they
don't scrape off easily sounds like thrush. We used an oral gel for baby
which I smeared all over my nipples afterwards. The sensation you describe
in your nipples sounds like what my nipples felt like when I had thrush.
