Default Stomach upset remedy

Hi there

I am new to this group and just wanted to say hello and ask a question.

I am 4 months pregant with my first baby and today woke up this morning
with slight stomach cramps like I have caught a bug or something.

I just wanted to know from the South African members on this site if a
product called Lennon's Jamaica Gemmer (ginger) is safe to use during
pregnancy?

Any info would be much appreciated, I livenow in New Zealand and have a
small bottle of the stuff and want to know if I can take some.

I'm not from South Africa, but here is a link to a study about the safety of
ginger during the first trimester of pregnancy.

According to the Mayo Clinic, you should not use high-dose ginger for
periods longer than 5 days as safety of it's prolonged use during pregnancy
has not been proven.
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gin...patient-ginger

Ginger has blood thinning properties and in studies using animal models has
been found to be the cause of foetus loss. In humans it also has
anticoagulant properties and it has been linked to increased risk of
bleeding. As there have not been extensive studies done on the safety of
ginger, it's usually not recommended for use or at least not for prolonged
use and pharmacists are advised against recommending it for use during
pregnancy.

Talk to your doctor, obstetrician, gynae, whoever, before you start using
it.
