Allergy meds for bf *and* pg?
Hey, all you meds experts out there - I have a question for you!
I seem to remember that when I was pg with ds, my OB didn't want me taking Claritin for my seasonal allergies. However, we found out it was ok for bf. Well, I just had my two lines show up, and now allergy season is coming. I still need to set up my OB appt, but I know that one of the things I need to discuss at my appt is what allergy meds I can take now. I'm also taking Rhinocort, btw. IIRC, that was not as much of a problem. Do you guys have any suggestions for allergy meds that are ok for both? I suspect that will make my doctor's life easier, since I know it's not his strongest point. He just looked in his PDR the last time around - at least this time, he knows about Hales! If I can bring in some references for him, that will be helpful. TIA, Irene mom to Thomas 7/01 #2 EDD April 2004 |

Allergy meds for bf *and* pg?

Nasacort is C/L3, so is Nasonex, so is Rhinocort. I'd be inclined to go with a spray since so little is systemically absorbed. Good luck - my OB wouldn't let me take anything but Benadryl : P And, congratulations : ) -- iphigenia www.tristyn.net |

(I had to go look up what all the letters meant - it's been a while since I've had to think about all this!) I did look at Hales' site and he mentioned that Benadryl can be a sedative for babies - but the specific question was about a very young baby. I did mention needing to discuss allergy meds when I set up my OB appt (after posting, but before seeing your reply) so he may have some thoughts when I get there. I had sort of forgotten about the hayfever issue when we decided July would be a good time to conceive a baby. Oops... g I may be staying inside a lot! And, congratulations : ) Thanks! Irene |
