Hi My 5.5 month old son is now getting too big for his infant tub that I use in the kitchen sink, but he cant sit on his own to use the "big tub" yet. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good support that we could use to bathe him in the big tub? Sure - there's probably nothing more supportive and safe than mommy and daddy. :-) We just bathed with the kids during that transition period. It's easier to have someone else lift the baby in and out while you're in the tub, though, especially if you have a very wiggly child. |

You. Or your partner if you have one.
Actually my DD takes a shower with DH. He passes her to me when he is done and I dry and dress her. We did this with DS too. I think they get cleaner this way. When DS was big enough to sit, he took a bath in the big tub. I am not comfortable showering with a baby, so when I have to bathe DD, I just get in the tub with her. S "daisy" wrote in message ... Does anyone have any suggestions on a good support that we could use to bathe him in the big tub? TIA We own a cute blow-up tub that's shaped like a duck (it's beak quacks too). DD can sit up on her own, but we're still using it because it uses less water than the full tub and when she occasionally falls, she falls onto the soft side of the blow-up tub rather than the porcelin tub. -- Melissa (in Los Angeles) Mum to Elizabeth 4/13/03 |

Had to take DS out of the tub, wash him and tub up, then start again. |

If not, he likely wouldn't in the big tub either. Urine is generally sterile and you would not have to take another bath although people seem to be squicked out about a whole bunch of things more than I ever was (or am). Like that gross disgusting add about 'body soil' in sheets which is totally and completely ridiculous. grandma Rosalie |

baby bathtub, help for 13 mth DD please
I got some good ideas from this thread, but not sure what my wife
wants to do... Our bathroom has shower only. Wife showers. 13 month old DD (just starting to walk) gets her 3 to 5 minute bath in a medium sized wash bucket thingie on the countertop in the guest bathroom. She sits up, and (amazingly) sits fairly still for it. But she's almost too big for it. We are thinking of getting rid of the sliding glass bath/shower door and replacing with a shower curtain which opens wider, and then we can lose that metal crossbeam thing that the shower door slides on. Right now, wife seems pretty comfortable (physically) standing and bathing DD on the countertop. And even with the metal crossbeam gone (ouch on the arms) leaning over the bathtub, is it physically draining?? I guess what I'm asking is suggestions? Should we get a bigger 'bucket' and put into the tub? On the countertop? (not much room up there) Is it lots of work to bathe with baby? And what's this sponge thing you guys are talking about? Thanks for any tips, ID (Ignorant Daddy) DougB |

I did this with my #1 AND #2, all of us together, starting when #2 could sit up by herself (~6 months). I gave them a bucket and toys, and they just stood/sat/played while I showered. This was in a standard sized bath tub, however. I preferred to do this because we could all get clean at one time, w/o too much fuss and ritual. If you try this, remember to use a no-slip mat. -- Jeannie E-mail: jeannie at talisweb dot see oh em Web: http://www.moonflour.com |

And even with the metal crossbeam gone (ouch on the arms) leaning over the bathtub, is it physically draining?? I don't find it so. I fold the towel and kneel on it to save some wear and tear on the knees, and just let my daughter (14 months) splash around in the bathtub. The nice thing about the post-baby phase is that once the child is happy in the tub, you don't have to be focusing on them with laser-hot attention to keep them from drowning. I usually bring in a catalogue to flip through while she plays. The actual washing part of bathing takes only a few minutes. I wash her first, then let her play in the water until one of us gets bored. I guess what I'm asking is suggestions? Should we get a bigger 'bucket' and put into the tub? They make inflatable mini-tubs that could go in the big tub, but if your daughter is 13 months old, I would simply buy a non-skid full-length bath mat (First Step Catalogue makes a great one for about 15 dollars, US) and fill the tub with 3 or four inches of water. On the countertop? (not much room up there) Is it lots of work to bathe with baby? I've never bathed with my daughter, although my husband does, every now and then. I have taken her into the shower with me, and that is a little bit difficult. And what's this sponge thing you guys are talking about? Here is a picture of the one I have -- but I think your daughter might have already outgrown it. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...535197-4340653 HTH, Donna |
