If they can do it...
"They say we are criminals. We are not criminals," said Salvador Hernandez, 43, of Los Angeles, a resident alien who came to the United States illegally from El Salvador 14 years ago and worked as truck driver, painter and day laborer. While I sympathize with your position, you do see the irony in the above statement? |

"They say we are criminals. We are not criminals," said Salvador Hernandez, 43, of Los Angeles, a resident alien who came to the United States illegally from El Salvador 14 years ago and worked as truck driver, painter and day laborer. Illegal immigration is a huge hot-button issue for tax payers in the western portion of the U.S. The expense of educating illegal children in our schools, providing medical coverage in ER's for illegals, housing illegals in jails and prisons, giving illegals out-of-state college tuition rates, and welfare benefits for illegals is draining the budgets of western states. I can relate from personal observation, the family court facilitators in western state courthouses there to help illegal fathers is made worse by the need to provide English to Spanish translators to deal with the social issues like CS. === Having lived in Phoenix for several years, I'm aware of this dilemma. But, they were the best laborers my ex had in his roofing business. Not too many Phoenix natives wanted to climb up on those roofs in the summer. == I don't think it matter economically all that much. If illegals were reduced in number greatly: 1. Prices on Food, Homes, and some Services would go up 2. Wages in Agriculture and Construction would go up Americans will do the work, but your gonna have to pay more for it. I think we need more legal immigration from other countries to counterbalance the illegals and provide a larger worker base for when the boomers all retire. |

Like CS issues, it's all about the money! Are you an illegal immigrant? |

"Bob Whiteside" wrote in Are you an illegal immigrant? If you remember, I was arrested at an immigration office for arrearages while I was completing my Greencard process. It still amazes me that an American Family court can have jurisdiction over other citizens of another country, even when they know you don't live in this country!!!!! I'm not sure anymore why I even need to try move here? I will say this, USA immigration laws are setup so that many of the people that want to come and work in the Fields & Farms would not qualify for any type of Visa. It's very hard for a highly skilled labourer to get a Visa, a non skilled/non educated worker has no chance. Just like with Divorce & CS, everybody loses except the Lawyers & the whole court system. Immigration lawyers are raping these poor people for filling in some basic forms & the INS helps a Lawyer's fee by making it tough by rejecting simple applications over mere technical spelling & grammar errors. If you thought food was expensive before, just wait till all those cheap illegal workers are replaced with documented workers that employers have to register with workman's comp, pay benefits & vacation pay. It makes no sense to criminalize these poor people, the economical costs is staggering to do so! Do you think your educated sons & daughters are going to push the lap top aside & start working in the orchards & fields or maybe put down the pen & lift up a hammer to install a roof on a hot blistering day? Will they work all day for small sums of money & then go home to a shack or van? Like the CS laws, Immigration laws & policy are being pushed thru by pressing hot emotions & false facts. Illegal immigration is not the problem, the problem is the politician's who want to use this issue to make the present party in power look bad. Where have all these concerened politicians been for the past 50 years? |

It still amazes me that an American Family court can have jurisdiction over other citizens of another country, even when they know you don't live in this country!!!!! Well, when one is standing on the soil, the laws in effect are of that country. It would be difficult to enforce the laws of all alien's different countries while standing in line at INS. That is the only part of this that makes any sense, however. I'm not sure anymore why I even need to try move here? Probably bought into the lie that the US was free. I will say this, USA immigration laws are setup so that many of the people that want to come and work in the Fields & Farms would not qualify for any type of Visa. It's very hard for a highly skilled labourer to get a Visa, a non skilled/non educated worker has no chance. That's the reward for doing it legal. You have to sneak in, then they don't care. They ARE lawyers, after all. That's what lawyers DO. Who do you think set this all up the way it is? Lawyers. If you thought food was expensive before, just wait till all those cheap illegal workers are replaced with documented workers that employers have to register with workman's comp, pay benefits & vacation pay. It makes no sense to criminalize these poor people, the economical costs is staggering to do so! No, the people are not to be punished, but to be fair, all business should labor under the same laws and rules. If employers must pay worker's comp insurance, all should. By the way, vacation and other benefits are at the descretion of the employer, not the government... not yet at least. Do you think your educated sons & daughters are going to push the lap top aside & start working in the orchards & fields or maybe put down the pen & lift up a hammer to install a roof on a hot blistering day? Will they work all day for small sums of money & then go home to a shack or van? The problem is not a lack of able workers, the problem is that so many are receiving government benefits and refuse to work. If the government would butt out, many of these socialist parasites would suddenly be able to work and being unskilled and less than trained, they would pick fruit or die. Like the CS laws, Immigration laws & policy are being pushed thru by pressing hot emotions & false facts. Illegal immigration is not the problem, the problem is the politician's who want to use this issue to make the present party in power look bad. Where have all these concerened politicians been for the past 50 years? Nothing much has changed for the better in the past 50 years and I don't expect it to improve in the next 50. As far as politicians are concerned, it's all about pork and perks. Politicians are not looking out for the People at all except on trying to screw them out of their life, sweat and blood. Phil #3 |

Truck drivers do not make that much plus most live in a space smaller than a prison cell for months at a time, catching a shower when possible, eating gawd-awful food and dealing with numb-skulled government officials every workday. Trust me, it's not that attractive after the second week. None of the occupations you mention make much. Painting is seasonal and sporadic and laborers work for pennies and have no security.
