Default Frustrated with OB

Hi all,
It's been 2 weeks or so since I've posted b/c I've been so busy with doctor
appts and trying to focus on controlling my diabetes (not gestational, but
totally out of whack due to pg). While I'm grateful to finally be back on
track and on routine, it took forever to get to this point! I am so
frustrated with my OB. It's taken at least 2 weeks, if not 3 now, for my
doctor to determine whether 1) I need a diabetic specialist and 2) I should
see a physical therapist or an orthopedist. These are things I've felt
needed immediate attention and I made that pretty clear, but it's like it
doesn't matter. It's almost like they kept forgetting about it and my
calling to 'ask' about it would remind them to do the next step.
Determinations were just made last week, so I finally got to see the
specialist this week and I will start PT on Monday. I just feel that I'm
not being taken seriously even though everything I've suspected so far has
been substantiated. Is everyone else's OB this lax, is it just mine, or am
I 'too expecting'?

Mmm... I don't think this sounds too good: you're not asking too much IMO,
and frankly, I would not stay with an OB who doesn't listen to my
concerns...

I do hope everything gets settled eventually, but I would switch.

Just my grain of salt.

Isabelle,

I read your response and it hit me how ready I am to jump off their ship.
Thank you for the validation!

Out of curiosity - do you not have a diabetologist or endocrinologist
caring for you when you aren't pregnant? My dad, who has been insulin
dependent for 15+ years, sees one, and I would assume that if you do, you
should talk to that person about any issues that have come up, if your OB
is being lame about it...

If it were me and my OB, I would express concern about a problem while I
was in his office, and I would not walk out of the office without either a
prescription, a referral, an appointment, or an explanation and a FIRM
callback plan no longer than 48 hrs in the future. So, I don't
know about "everyone's" OB, but no, mine is not like that, and if he
were, he would not be mine.

I don't think you are being "too expectant." When it comes to a condition
(such as diabetes) that is in a category of needing a specialist to begin
with, it is not an issue that should take your OB 2-3weeks to decide on. I
am wondering if you already have an endocrinologist, though? IF so, stick
with that person for your diabetes and find an OB that is savvy to keep in
touch with the endocrinologist. Hang in there-hope you are settled soon and
good luck with the PT.

If you need more validation, I will tell you that although i did not like my
OB, I did not switch and I really really *really* regret it. I think my OB
was competent, but I did not like his personality and he did not like
answering questions. At my delivery, he waltzed in at the end like all OBs
do - but the first thing he said was to the nurse "Oh, I guess i will get to
make my tennis game at 6 after all." My dh and I were so offended.

Anyway, back to you - if you are not on the same page as your OB now, that
does not bode well for things to come, I'd switch too.

At my delivery, he waltzed in at the end like all OBs
do -

Just for the record, while MANY OB's do this, not ALL do. Mine was with me on
and off through my entire labor.(He had several other laboring moms to tend to,
so he couldn't be with me ALL the time, but I probably wouldn't have wanted him
sitting there for 18 hours anyway.)
