YoungBloke is 5 months old, exclusively BF and currently getting over
a very snotty cold. For the past couple of days his poo has been
greener than usual, with some mustardy yellow bits but otherwise quite
slimy and not the normal sweetish smell I've come to recognise (and
thinking back, I can't remember when there last wasn't any green in
there at all). In himself he's happy, laughing, and continuing to gain
weight. He's not vomiting, doesn't appear to be teething (although he
wants to put everything in his mouth and is drooly on and off) and
doesn't appear to have any stomach aches or diarrhoea (although he's
gone from 1-2 dirty nappies daily for the last week to 3 already
today). He's feeding well, and fairly frequently, and has no signs of
dehydration.

So here are my questions:
Could this change be in any way due to me being about to get my
period?
Could it be due to something I've eaten - if so what? My mum's
recently been diagnosed with coeliac disease, could wheat in my diet
be affecting his gut?
Could it just be the end of the cold working its way out?
Should I be any more concerned than I am (which isn't too much, to be
honest, although I'm watching what I'm eating, so I can discuss with
the health visitor when I see her on Thursday)?

Any of you wonderfully experienced and knowledgeable mums got any
ideas? Thanks for any help!

I wouldn't be concerned at all. Sounds pretty much like a normal Meg (5
mos) variation, probably more of the cold than anything else. I got my
period when she was 4 mos and all I noticed in her was that she started
getting a little acne right when I got the first period.

I think there is some research out there about when wheat is introduced and
susceptibility to celiac disease; OT from your concern, but since you are
concerned about it running in your family you may want to check it out.

That would be very common for my kids if they had a cold.

I vote for cold.

Wheat in my diet affected Caterpillar, but it wasn't something that came
and went, or something that lasted just a couple of days.

Very common with a child having a cold or getting over one. Not to worry at
all.

Thanks, Dagny (and the others who posted). He produced 7 dirty nappies
yesterday, and one already today - slightly yellower, the smell is
improving (good grief, the things we discuss!) but still very slimy.
Still, I think there's some improvement.

Yeah, next time I see my GP I'll discuss it with him.

That's what started me thinking. His poo has been greener than usual,
but that's starting from a base of "not typical
mustardy-seedy-yellow". I can't remember the last nappy that was seedy
and yellow, they're nearly always a bit slimy and greenish.

Relax -- it's the snot that he's swallowed.

If he's as happy as can be expected, not off his feed or anything else
unusual, it's unlikely to be serious.
