A Site that helps parents find child care & other services
hello everyone! i just wanted to introduce to you all a site i
created. its at http://www.whitecarrot.com and was interested in getting some feedback from parents around the web. Its basically a child services directory for parents to find daycares and stuff; it can also be used by child care providers looking to advertise their business. It's free to use, no registration required, etc... please let me know what you think. many thanks!! |

That means that there is no assurance of any quality with the child care prividers. I think it is a stupid advertising site. I was happy to share this with and . My wife might find a site with names of babysitters useful, even if no registration were required, because screening the babysitter is not something she would "farm out" anyway. She would talk to the woman on the phone, get rerferences, meet in person, etc. I think it is a stupid advertising site. I was happy to share this with and . I am sure they will find your spam interesting. It looks like a legitimate site for parents, although I doubt it's better than just using Google. I don't think posting about a site once in a relevant newsgroup constitutes spam. If the OP repeatedly advertises the site, that would be different. |

A Site that helps parents find child care & other services
Hey Jeff,
Thanks for your honesty. I'm not sure if you actually need childcare services or not, but if you actually had the need to, you probably would find it easier to find daycare listings on my site than you would perhaps with other services. I've done my research, I've looked around. Many sites claim to have 10,000 listings or what not. Whats 10,000 accross the US when we have about 10,000 just in the state of Texas? I'm just trying to build an easy to use system which gives you better results than most. Now I must admit we have not covered all states yet, but I think we're making some progress here. Baby steps. Anyway, I can see how you may feel this site could be an advertising site, But it's not. It does have some ads I admit, but most sites do nowadays. You're in one right now as we speak. I definitely put and effort to read replies like yours. Good or bad, it helps us determine what people want. Sometimes we can fix it, sometimes we can't. Thats how things goes. As for not requiring registration, well, I don't see a reason to. At least not for parents who want to look for information about daycares in near their home. Now we can't make assurances because that will make us liable. We have 33,000 child care businesses listed, we can't make assurances. Those things are done by the state. As parents, we need to make sure we do our homework too. The site is simply a tool, not parenting replacement. With that said, thanks for your comments. I'm sure the verizon folks and google folks enjoyed the spam report. Hopefully got kids that need child care! A Site that helps parents find child care & other services
Hi Beliavsky,
I defintely agree with you regarding the screening process parents need to make when seeking child care or what not. I don't think there are any "simple" ways to click a button and just have 110% quality child care with no risks. No website will dare to guarantee that unless they have paying child care providers and have an infrastructure that processes and screens child care providers. There are some, but they certainly aren't for free. Free means you gotta do some homework on your own. Otherwise you'll have to pay. Personally, I wouldn't leave parenting responsibilities to others, but it doesn't hurt to have some sites/services out there to help facilitate things. Whitecarrot.com is ever changing and evolving, so its not like what you see is what you get. I follow up on my posts to see what people say because its important for me to know why people like it or not. Obviously, it takes some time, but I did ask for people's opinion, thats why I'm taking the time to reply. Many thanks for your comments and input! Hi Banty,
I actually did really want people's opinion. Whats interesting is that Jeff mentioned how my site provides no guarantees. That brings up a pretty interesting parenting topic. Would you want a site to guarantee you those things? Would you trust it? You have no knowledge of his newsreader. Your ignorance is showing. Even my web based newsreader allows me to suppress ads, which I do (because unfortunately Newsguy seems geared toward their "adult" customers). WHAT?!? No knowledge about if they're current, or licensed - you're less useful than the phone book. At least those get re-issued about yearly. I'm sure they did. They have a lot more experience than you give them credit for. My question for YOU is - if a daycare provider goes out of business, how do you know? Do you keep your listing current - do you call them or check their registration/accredation status and remove them if they're no longer in business? How do you know someone even *is* a daycare provider? Or is this something that will just pop up in Google, look 'real' and provide nothing but a bunch of ads to be hit with? BECAUSE, there are childcare resource and referral functions out there that actually do provide good, current information. Compared to that, your site looks pretty useless, and indeed just a site to move ads along. Banty |
