are the frozen peas from
supermarket raw or cooked?

Raw.

Having had both raw (straight from the shell) peas and
thawed (but not heated) frozen peas, I think most frozen
peas are cooked. Not cooked to mush (the way nasty canned
peas are), but not raw.

nope. frozen peas are not even blanched. they are simply flash frozen out
of the pod (or in it if you buy sugar snaps). the texture change is
entirely due to the freezing process.

Just out of curiosity, I wrote to C&W Frozen Foods. Their representative,
Michelle Odfina, told me all their products, including peas, are
blanched before being frozen, that this was standard.

hmm. ok. *i* don't blanch peas. i do blanch string beans. i didn't think
peas needed it, but maybe in a commercial plant they're exposed to more
bacteria. shrug
