Default Help for my Sis-5mo still nursing every 2-3hours

Help my sisters DS is still nursing every 2-3 hours he will be 6 months old
next week. He sleeps thru the night. He refuses a bottle and loves the solids
that she has started. I cannot help her as my daughter has been going for
hours with out BF since she was that age. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

He's normal, and omg, sleeping thru the night.
I don't see the problem?? In fact, with the night sleeping, I reckon
she's doing better than most. Why is the nursing a problem?

My DD is 8.5 months old and still nursing every 3 hours during the day (and
eats lots of solids) and she DOESN'T sleep through the night. On a good
night she wakes up once on a bad night 4-5 times. She should consider
herself lucky her DS is sleeping through the night. Why does she have a
problem with the nursing?

It can be very normal to nurse that frequently at 6 months. Both mine
nursed that frequently at 6 months and beyond. Since he is sleeping through
the night I wouldn't tinker with it either!! ;-)

LOL. Until a few (maybe 3 or 4) months ago, my almost 2 year old was still
nursing every 4 hours or less and STILL doesn't sleep through the night!
I'd say your sister is WELL ahead of the game. All babies are different -
he refuses a bottle because he knows what's best for him!

She might try only nursing him from one side so he gets the thicker richer
hindmilk (if she isn't doing that already) if he's hungry. However, some
babies just nurse for comfort (mine does and always has) and will snack
rather than have a big nursing session.

HTH!

I can't remember how often DS was nursing at that age, but I think it was
somewhere around every 3 to 4 hours. Is this a real problem for her or is
it only a problem because other people feel it's a problem?

Can you expand on the problem. At that age DD was not sleeping through the
night, and definately nursing every 2 hours at least. She would have
nothing to do with solids, and at 18 months, still doesn't eat very much
food.

sorry, I don't understand the problem, if he sleeps through, he'll need to
feed 2-3 hourly through the day to get his requirements. I know my ds
doesn't sleep through if he spreads his feeds out during the day (which he
does if he's at daycare and has to have a bottle) if I'm with him, he gets
it when ever he wants, often every 2 hours but is likely to sleep through
(he's nearly 8 months).

I told her that he is normal and I really do not think that she has a problem
with it except for the fact she had been trying to go back to work part time
and her office is pressuring her and he WILL NOT take a bottle. Definelty
outside influences driving her batty. She is comparing DS to my DD who goes for
3-4 hours at a stretch between nursings and has done so since about 6 months.
I told her all babies are different but she is a first time Mom and this is all
old hat to be it being my 3rd. Thanks for all your advice and info I am
forwading to her.

Karen was all, like:

work part time and her office is pressuring her and he WILL NOT take
a bottle. [...]

Maybe she could try a sippy cup if the goal is for him to have EBM.
