I Am A Big Brother (Big Brothers Big Sisters) And Have A Problem With My Match

I have been matched for 21 months. Every week, mainly on Sunday, I would go
there and spend about 9 hours with him between going out and hanging around at
his house, mainly just us. We would go to Burger King every week, and he has
been wanting to buy video games (his money).

He was looking foward to seeing me more and staying at my house when it is done
because I drive 40 miles to his house from my hotel to see him every week, but
how can he when he says he is uncomfortable with my wife? My wife is very easy
going, and is nice to everyone. I treated this kid nicely (everyone says I
did).


He has problems relating to people. He is too much with video games. He also
likes George Carlin and rattles off his humor (sad, isn't it?).

sounds like a poor match & you're making excuses. you *are* the one that
promised to pick him up at a certain time & you were an hour late without
even calling him. he was expecting time with his Big Brother and then you
bring your wife (who made you late... and you don't understand why he
might resent her?)
you obviously have different interests. he likes video games & you seem
to think they're causing him to be 'anti-social'. you think it's "sad"
that he likes George Carlin's humor? why? George Carlin *is* funny,
although his humor may make some people uncomfortable because it's too
close to home.
i think this kid derserves someone who actually takes an interest in
HIM, not someone that thinks they can change him into *thier* idea of a
'nice' Little Brother.
