eye q(TM): New Data Reveals School Children Transformed by Unique School Programme! LONDON, January 10 /PRNewswire/ -- - The Omega-3 Supplement Chosen by the Food for the Brain Schools Campaign New data released today[1] reveals substantial reductions in the key measurements of ADHD symptoms and strong improvements in classroom performance in a unique school programme using nutrition and exercise. Participants in The Food for the Brain Schools Campaign at Cricket Green SEN School in Merton for seven months have followed a daily regime of taking the long chain fatty acid supplement eye q(TM), a combination of omega-3 fish oil and omega-6 evening primrose oil, a balanced nutritious diet, a new exercise regime[2], and a multivitamin. A total of 90 pupils aged between five to sixteen years completed the programme that involved a healthy lunch menu and a ban on sugary drinks and snacks. Pupils were encouraged to consume only fresh fruit and water outside of main meals throughout the school day. Parents were also invited to cooking workshops in an effort to improve home meals. Parents and teachers completed standardised assessment tests for symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)[3] to establish what effect the combined programme had on pupil performance both at home and at school. The preliminary results have shown significant improvements in the behaviour and learning abilities of participating pupils. Organisers hope the programme can be rolled out nationally to improve academic results and assist pupils with learning conditions such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia. The Teacher Conner's Ratings revealed that of the 90 pupils, 49 pupils had baseline scores above the abnormal score of 60-65. Of these 49 children, significant reductions were revealed in various assessment measures including restlessness, hyperactivity, social problems, inattention, anxiety and shyness. Results: - 5.6% reduction in restlessness and impulsiveness - 9.3% reduction in inattention - 9.2% reduction in hyperactivity and impulsivity - 9% reduction in social problems - 10% significant reduction in anxiety and shyness Using the Parent Conner's Rating Scales, pupils that were reassessed showed statistically significant reductions of ADHD symptoms between the beginning (0 months) and at the end of the study (7 months). Results: - 15% reduction in oppositional behaviour - 18% reduction in anxiety and shyness - 16% reduction in social problems - 25% reduction in psychosomatic problems[4] - 14% reduction was shown in overall symptoms of ADHD - 15% reduction in impulsive behaviour and restlessness - 16% reduction in symptoms of inattention, and there was a slightly lower reduction in reported hyperactivity and impulsivity. "The consequence of this has been improvements in writing, communication, together with improved mood and social behaviour," commented Cricket Green SEN School Head Teacher Celia Dawson. "Some children are calmer and less active, therefore I feel they are accessing the learning opportunities provided by our excellent staff." Chief Executive of the Food for the Brain Foundation, Patrick Holford said: "The scale of these results have not been achieved by diet alone, and are consistent with other studies involving supplements. This project demonstrates that taking eye q(TM), alongside an improved healthy diet, daily exercise, and a multivitamin is a winning formula." "The key is involving parents and children in every step of the way to take on board a healthier lifestyle," Holford said. "We hope that transformations like this will make the Government sit up and listen and provide the necessary funding both for further research and to fund Food for the Brain projects in other schools in Britain." The evidence behind the eye q(TM) formulation has been widely publicised. School trials in Durham[5], Middlesbrough[6], Sure Start Peterlee[7] and Greenfield Community Arts College in Newton Aycliffe[8] mean hundreds of children have taken eye q(TM) under the supervision of education authorities. This makes eye q(TM) the most independently tested omega-3 and omega-6 formulation on the market for learning and behavioural conditions. The eye q(TM) formulation is unique and uses hi-EPA marine fish oil and virgin evening primrose oil. It is available in Boots, Superdrug, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrison's, Waitrose, ASDA Holland and Barrett, Lloyds, independent health food stores and pharmacies, priced from GBP7.99. Notes to Editors: - Available for interview teachers and case studies from Cricket Green SEN School and Patrick Holford, Nutritionist and Psychologist, Chief Executive of the Food for the Brain Schools Campaign. www.foodforthebrain.org - The fish oil in eye q(TM) is pressed from the flesh of sardines and pilchards harvested for their high levels of EPA. Special care is taken to leave the oil in its most natural bio-available form, so the fatty acids are easily absorbed. The oil is of a pharmaceutical grade, made from fish harvested from southern oceans known to have very low pollution levels. Each batch is independently tested and always found to be in full compliance with the stringent European Community and World Health Organisation guidelines for levels of PCB's and dioxins. - This preliminary analysis, is unpublished data, and not peer reviewed, and will be subject to further analysis.
