poll - Pitocin and no pain meds
"Stephanie Stowe" wrote in message ...
Anyone ever done it? It is only my due date, so I am worried for naught (if you want to call it worried). Is it doable? S I haven't (didn't need to be induced, but did go med-free), but know a woman who did. She was the first person I met who pressured me to get a doula, by coincidence - she had one, and loved her. (I didn't, in the end.) I sympathize with you - that was one of my big fears, too! With luck, you won't need to and everything will progress naturally. Irene |

Anyone ever done it? It is only my due date, so I am worried for naught (if you want to call it worried). Is it doable? I wasn't able to do it. I was 42+ weeks with no sign of labor starting on its own. I was given prostaglandin gel to soften my cervix at about 8 am which brought on some very mild contractions. The pitocin was started around noon and then the dr. broke my water about 2. That's when I found I couldn't handle it anymore. Now that I've had a 'natural" labor, the difference seemed to be that the contractions were much closer together and more intense on pitocin--like being in transition the whole time I guess. I received a sedative (can't remember the name now) to "take the edge off". I started pushing about 3:30, but my baby wasn't born until after 5, aided by forceps. He had a huge head and was sort of turned with his face sideways--neither down nor up. I had the idea that I would do this without medication, but I found the little I got really helped me control myself and I was very happy with my birth (and BABY!) in the end. Chris |

: I know I'll get flamed for this, but the epidural isn't that bad. I : was so anti-drugs in genera. ended up being induced (pre-eclampsyia) As anti-epidural as I am, I would have to say that anyone who flamed you for an epidural under these circumstances would be an insensitive idiot. Pitocen aided contractions are NO fun. Larry |
