Yeah, me too. I was looking for that word, but couldn't think of it. Hmmm,
I wonder what THAT says about me! ; )

Okay, you got me there. Although I guess I don't see Faith, Hope,

Charity,
Grace, Prudence, Patience, Chastity and Joy as nouns.

I would have called those virtue names.

I mean I understand
that they are, just as Dick, Willy and Peter are, but really, is the kid
being named after the appendage, or did the appendage get named after

the
person? ; )

And Abigail is reaching. That's a name, first and foremost. And I'm

not
even going to talk about the City or President issue.

So, I do concede the point that many names were originally nouns, that
became acceptable names. But produce? Come on! I'm sure you'll be

able
to
name a few, but they aren't readily accepted.

By the way, you forgot the whole flower list -- Lily, Poppy, Violet,

Daisy,
etc.... ; )

It's not typical that people in our country use
Nouns as names.

Faith, Hope, Charity, Grace, Prudence, Patience, Chastity (ok,
Chastity Bono is probably an exception), Joy, Jade, Emerald, Ruby,
Abigail (yes, it is, look it up g), Summer, Storm, Madison (all
those not the son of Maud are named for a city or a president)...
(And, at DH's suggestion(!) Dick, Willy, John...) And all names are
nouns to start with!

Clearly it happens, such as River Phoenix and his
brother Joaquin, whose name was originally Leaf, I believe, but
those are few and far between. That's all.

No. Joaquin was named Joaquin at birth. He asked to be called Leaf
around age 5 when he realised his siblings had 'nature' names and he
didn't. He reverted later - he was still known as Leaf when River
died, and that may have been a factor.

Jac

I think she ment names more like Chair, Couch, Banana, Love Seat. I kinda
like the names Leaf and River as well as a ton of the girl noun names you
have listed.

Yeah, I know. Just making a point. And now I'm thinking Banana Love
Seat is going to be the next celeb baby we hear about. Damn, that's
catchy! :-)

Yeah, I could have carried on for ages, that was just the first 15
to come to mind. It's not new, to use such names, and that's why I
don't see Apple as that far out. I mean, it's not Love Seat (thank
you Tori!).

Anyway, it could be worse.

And do I need to even mention Baby's Named A Bad Bad Thing? Everyone
on this group should have it bookmarked!

My neice's middle name is MacKenzie, spelt like that. I didn't
realize there were different ways to spell it.

Apparently, a web publication called Cupcake
(http://www.snopes.com/quotes/info/cupcake.htm)
published a satirical interview of Mariah Carey in which this quotation
appeared. It was picked up and recirculated to the point where people got
confused and began to believe that she really said it.

It's wrong to circulate such a damaging quotation when in fact Mariah Carey
"has actually engaged in a number of philanthropic efforts, including
performing benefit concerts to raise money for Camp Mariah, a camp for
impoverished city youths in Fishkill, N.Y. "

Cat said:

And just because that website says she didn't say it doesn't mean she really
didn't say it. Just give it a rest and stop picking apart my sig.

And if I decide to make up a sig line saying:

"Everyone who hangs out on mkp is stupid."
--Cat

how would you prove you never said it? That's called libel, and it's illegal,
as well as uncharitable. There are plenty of real quotations from famous
people that are worth repeating; why not put one of those in your sig?

And this isn't about picking apart your sig just to be picking it apart. It's
about stemming the flow of misinformation so that no further damage is done to
Mariah Carey's character. I personally check every single stupid email forward
I receive on Snopes. I wish to God everyone else would too. It takes all of
one minute, and 99% (at least) of the things I am sent are completely or partly
wrong. I always hit reply all so that the correct info gets distributed to as
many people as possible, and many times people whom I don't even know have
mailed me to thank me.

Why are you so attached to this particular quotation to the point that you
would continue to use it even when you know it is false?
