Default bed rail till what age?

DD (13 mo) sleeps on a mattress on the floor. I put pillows where the
mattress ends so that if she rolls down, the fall will be a bit
smoother. I'm thinking of buying cot for her. I will buy a cot that's
not too high off the ground. I'm debating whether I should get a bed
rail also. I'll put the bed against a corner so that two sides are up
against the wall. but till what age is a bed rail recommended?

Thanks.

Till they stop falling off the bed. I would have needed one until maybe 8
yo. My parents put a fold-up cot next to my bed and I'd fall into that.
I'd wake up in it not remembering ever falling into it.

DS 4 yo never falls out of bed now that I know of. As a toddler, he'd sleep
half on/off the mattress, so he fell off quite often. We never had a rail
for him, because we waited until he could stay on the mattress before we
transitioned him to a bed.

I used mine until they told me they didn't want it anymore. P

I didn't make a huge deal over the beds. I bought twin beds and put one side
against the wall and the other side had a rail. No problem. I personally
wouldn't waste money on different kinds of beds while the kids are growing.
I went straight to what I wanted them to sleep in for a long time and that
was a twin bed. No one ever fell out of bed and I had no problems with them
sleeping in it. They did get up multiple times until they decided I was
serious for them to stay there.

Ds is five tomorrow and he just asked me to take it off the other day. It
hadn't even occured to me that he might not need it anymore.

Lol. ds has fallen out of bed a few times even *with* the bed rail. I think
I'll remove it tonight.

We've never used rails. Mine have generally left
the crib by about the time they turn two.

I never used bed rails either except in the top bunk of a bunk bed.
Mine were out of the crib soon after they could climb out by
themselves, unless I didn't have anything but a crib for them to sleep
in.

I used a toddler bed for my kids until they were around 3-4 years old.
I think it cost between $20-30 plus the mattress. I then gave it to my
sister-in-law who is using it for hers kids 3-4 too. It's not too high
off the ground, maybe a foot or so, plus it comes with small bedrails
for each side. It uses a crib mattress. They all loved it and hated
giving it up when it was time to.
