Humidifier: Warm or Cold?
I've tried both and found both to be TOO noisy.
Warm humidifies MUCH quicker in the one's I've tried. (Loads of water is dispersed) I found that neither made any difference to DD's coughs though. : ( In the end I prefer the silent option of a bowl of steaming water with essential oil in the corner of the room. ROSIE |

Humidifier: Warm or Cold?
"Sara" wrote in message ... Carol Ann wrote: Which do I need to purchase? Why do you need either? Very humid air helps loosen secretions and help a stuffy baby breathe more easily. They're invaluable. Carol Ann, I love my cool mist humidifier. Get one of the ultrasonic ones - they're very quiet. Mine is soundless. I think it's made by Vicks. They're sold in pharmacies, and I imagine target and walmart type stores. I chose cool, because with newborns you don't want them to overheat. Plus, I live in Florida. Donna |

Humidifier: Warm or Cold?
When DS had RSV back in March, we went through this too. We started
with a warm mist one, because I didn't know there was any other kind. We ran it all night and woke up with water dripping from the ceiling fan and running down the walls. Not good in a 1940's house with plaster walls and ceilings! So I called the ped and asked again and they specified COOL mist for the congestion and cough. BTW, it's helping with DH's snoring too! Good luck, Robin |

Humidifier: Warm or Cold?
I don't have experience with more modern warm humidifiers, but we only
have the cold kind (its one of those sonic ones). The reason is...when we were kids, my brother gave himself a very serious steam burn with a hot one (it sucked water up from a resevoir through a heating coil and steam came out the top). He was maybe 5 or 6, and we never got out of him exactly what the heck he did, but the long and short of it was that he was playing with it as it ran in his room, and somehow ended up with a big blast of steam on his leg - he had a big burn about the size of an adult hand on his thigh. Then he was scared to tell my mother what he'd done and didn't tell her for a day or two. He finally told her his leg hurt, and I can still remember her SCREAM when she took his pajama bottoms down to take a look and saw this big oozing burn. I think the important part is the humidity and not anything else. I just think the cool ones have to be safer. Mary G. |
