Double Stroller (side by side)
Hi all,
Does anyone here have a side by side double stroller? I have been trying to decide which to purchase...so far it's between the Inglesina and the Maclaren. I already own a Peg Perego Tender Twin (which I used for my first two children, though it looks brand new in spite of having thousands of miles on it) and I also have a Graco Duo Glider. I just want the convenience of a lighter, side by side umbrella style stroller. Any comments at all? TIA, Chele Alyssa and Abby 12/20/04 |

Hi Chele
I've bought the Maclaren, but I haven't used it much so far. Only once to be honest. I had the hardest time unfolding it, so maybe it requires much more strength than what I have. Although it's very light I have to admit it and it doesn't take a lot of place and fits in my car easily. What I liked is my stroller (twin traveler) did come with the rain cover and the sun canopies. How is the Graco duo-glider ? How is the Graco duo-glider ?
We bought the Duo Glider because it holds both infant car seats. I think it's just ok. Though, my girls are 6.5 months old and the wheels look worn down quite a bit already. It's not like we have put hundreds of miles on it or anything! By comparison, my Perego Tender Twin does have hundreds (and hundreds) of miles on it, and the wheels look brand new. What I really love about the Graco is the ginormous g basket underneath. When I shop, a lot of times I just use the big basket to hold everything as it beats pushing the stroller with one hand and pulling the cart with the other (though I have done that as well). I also like the parent tray...I put keys, a drink, and other things in it. It seems relatively easy to push and I really haven't had any issues thus far. It is a bit bulky and takes up a good amount of space in the back of the minivan. It could be lighter too! JMO, Chele :-) |

I have a 3 year old Maclaren, been on countless planes and cars and
been through deep snow to over 104 dergee temps. Need some oil in the wheels again but it goes pretty much everywhere, except through the checkout at the supermarket. It IS getting a bit narrow in the shoulders, but by the time it is a problem I will probably not be using it any more. Jack |

Hi Chele,
I have the Peg Perego Aria Twin and Ioved it for it's lightness and easinessto fold and lift. It reclines all the way back and both have sun canopies. Might even be cheaper than the Maclaren. You will never find a basket as big as the DuoGlide!! Now that A & A are older, I use that more now for shopping, so they can't really get to each other. Well, there is some hair pulling!! LOL I also have the Schwinn Double Jogger which I love, love, love! The swivel wheel rocks!! Do you have a local consignment shop or even Freecycle? It will save you hundreds!! ~Megan~ "Mama" to twins, Aidan & Alexis The countdown to 3 years old is on! |

If you or your husband are on the tall side, be careful of side by side
strollers that have 6 sets of wheels. I'm 5'8" and found that my feet hit the middle set of wheels, which was very annoying. I wound up with the Peg Perego Aria Twin which only has 4 sets of wheels. Actually though, even though my Graco Duo-Glider is heavier, I find it much much much easier to maneuver most places than the side by side. Whatever you do, don't get rid of the tandem once you get your side by side. There is a definate time and place for each to be used. (IMHO) Good luck with your decision. Hi Chele, Sorry, can't comment on the ones you are looking at. We had a Combi Twin Savvy, which I totally loved... but I bought a used one from the time period where there was a design flaw, and it broke a few weeks ago after 1.5 years of use :-(. We replaced it with a Chicco Velocita (can't afford a new Combi), and I'm not nearly so happy with it. It feels sturdy, but it's hard to fold/unfold and the stupid sun canopies keep popping off. We "test drove" a Graco DuoRider (their SBS), and it feels really rickety, doesn't fold very small, and has only a single canopy. I've heard great things about the Maclaren, and if the girls weren't already two I'd probably get one of those (or a new Combi). I just can't see investing over $300 in a new stroller for two girls who would rather walk! :-) -- Paula Mom to Olivia and Cassie (b. 4/8/03 @ 26 weeks) Noah (b. 6/1/05 @ 35 weeks) ^Grace^ (b. 5/16/02 d. 5/17/02) and ^Adam^ (b/d. 5/17/02) |

Hmm, Paula, I don't know what you mean about a single canopy for the
Duoglide, but ours has 2 canopies and 2 trays for each seat. The Duoglide is great for newborns, b/c the carseats snap into it. IMO, a front/back stroller is better for stores and shopping. But, our double jogger is what we use outside. ~Megan~ "Mama" to twins, Aidan & Alexis The countdown to 3 years old is on! |

Megan,
The Graco DuoRIDER is their side by side model. The DuoGLIDER is the front to back. I believe Paula was referring to the side by side, which does have just one canopy. I don't believe it is a very popular model though. Places like Babies R Us don't even carry it. (at least the ones by our house). In my opinion, there is not just one PERFECT double stroller. They all have their pluses and minuses. Every twin mom I know has at least two of them!!
