Morning sickness medication questions
I am 13 weeks pregnant and have been going through really bad "whole
day sickness" from week 5.5 and on. As I wasn't able to keep anything down, the doctor prescribed me first phenergan and then zorphan(because Phenergan made me sleepy all day long which is a problem at work). I have been taking one of each regularly(one zorfan 8 mg in the morning and one phenergan at night). This week I am trying to stop phenergan and not only facing nausea/vomitting but can't sleep at night. My questions a 1. Did anybody use phenergan and/or zofran continuously in first trimester? Is there any side effect that you faced? Can taking these medicines continuously be harmful to the baby? 2. Is there any withdrawal symptom that you faced when you stopped these? 3. How long did your morning sickness last? I am afraid that as I am taking these medicines, my body is not naturally getting used to the rising hormone levels and I may have a prolonged morning sickness even after first trimester. Thanks a lot for listening, - Bashuri |

Cant answer your first two questions.. I had horrible morning sickness the 1st and early 2nd trimester of this pregnancy. I talked to my OB about it and he wrote me a Rx for something (cant recall what) and also told me I could take an over-the-counter sleep aid (don't remember which one, sorry) along with my prenatal but I never ended up taking either. I was having a hard enough time taking my prenatal and couldn't swallow another pill. I just grinned and bared it until it passed. I get the occasional bout of morning sickness now but only seems to happen when I let myself go too long without eating. I would think being in your 13th week you are getting very close to the end of the morning sickness period. Good luck. On a side note...I never experienced morning sickness with my first pregnancy and actually had no pregnancy symptoms until I started to feel the baby move. I remember wishing for morning sickness so I would "feel pregnant", luckily I never experienced it the first time. But what the heck was I thinking wishing for that! I was having a hard enough time taking my prenatal and couldn't swallow another pill. Half of a vitamin B6 tablet plus one Unisom (doxylamine succinate). It's called Diclectin, is available in Canada, and is the only nausea medication that the FDA (in the US) has given the highest safety rating to, for use during pregnancy (category A, proven safe). It has a higher safety rating than Zofran or Phenargen. I would have felt completely comfortable taking this, had my m/s been as bad this time as it was with Sproutkin's pregnancy.
