solids and a 6 month old
My 6 month old started solids a few of weeks ago and has taken to it quite
agressively. He's very interested when anyone around him puts anything to their mouths, whether they are eating or drinking or even just applying lipstick. He grabs at food if he's in anyone's lap that is eating and gets cranky if he isn't offered a taste (sometimes he just has to grouch, some things are not for 6month olds). I've noticed that last couple of days that he gets downright mad sometimes when he is hungry and is offered "just" the breast. On one hand, I hate to feed him solids when he's grouchy. I don't want him to get an association that food fixes things when he's upset. But on the other hand, if he's grouchy because he's hungry and he really would rather have solids, why not? His intake is quite impressive. This afternoon he finished a whole jar of squash for lunch. He nursed a little bit afterwards but is definitely not nursing as much. For supper he had a whole jar of bananas and a half a jar of greenbeans. I nursed him about a half hour later and he went to sleep until I had to hand him off to DH. He may or may not be asleep now depending on whether or not DH is making faces at him. But that's another post. :-) So, basically I want to know if I'm doing this all wrong. I had asked about solids before we started him on much aside from cereal and was told a spoonful or two would be plenty. But this little Monkey has his mouth opened before I even get the jar opened. He's enjoying his big boy food but if he's eating too much I'd like to know what to do about it. I'd hate for him to wean himself but it looks like we may be heading in that direction. BTW, he's about 18lb 8oz if that matters. He was 6lb 9oz at birth. He's chunky enough so he's probably getting enough calories but I'm also concerned about him getting enough proteins, etc from his diet. No advice here, I know Izabella loves her cereal and shes all the time fussy
to get more and more of that. I have not started bottle foods yet, cannot wait till we try that. But I wanted to tell you I just loved the picture hes so cute. -- Laura Mommy to Izabella **Feb 10th, 2003** And 2 felines *Ashes(2) & George (4)* http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/i/izabellawelburn/ ***JUST PUT UP ALOT OF NEW PICTURES*** "DavesFatChick" wrote in message ... Besides of introducing allergenic foods too soon there is very little you can do wrong, especially if your baby makes it clear this is what he wants. DS also is a good eater, and would finish a whole banana at that age. I noticed that he would feel more full if I gave him fresh fruits than when I fed him a jar, since the jars contain lots of water. Bananas are easy, you can just mash them up with a fork. Most other fruits (apples, pears, mango, peach) you can soften with a few drops of water in the microwave and then mash up. If he still nurses 4-5 times a day, he should get enough nutrients from your milk. Lovely picture! Now wait until he starts throwing foods... -- -- Ilse mom to Olaf (07/15/2002) TTC #2 "What's the use of brains if you are a girl?" Aletta Jacobs, first Dutch woman to receive a PhD |

solids and a 6 month old
One other problem I can think of is to be sure the baby is getting enough fat for
brain development. If he isn't nursing enough, you might have a problem in this area. Anna DavesFatChick wrote: My 6 month old started solids a few of weeks ago and has taken to it quite agressively.
