Baby preferring one side
Hi all, I am still having problems stemming from 2 plugged ducts in the
last 10 days. The nipple on the affected side has been really sore, and although I have been nursing DD on that side, I think I have been having trouble relaxing. Consequently flow hasn't been as good, so she gets frustrated and unlatches (painfully), but is quite happy on the other side. There are 2 issues here - should I nurse her only on the good side till the affected nipple has healed, and then try and rebuild supply or should I try and nurse at the same time as healing (hopefully)? Also, when she unlatches on the bad side, she doesn't let go - she clamps down (well up really since she has lower teeth!) and pulls the nipple, which has caused grazing. I can't predict when she will unlatch, so I can't unlatch her myself. An LC suggested remedying the behaviour by saying 'no', but when I do that she gets upset and refuses that side. And I don't want to give her the other side, as that is more like giving her a reward. Aaargh. Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I just put her down for a few minutes, and then try again on the bad side? What if she still refuses? Thanks for any help - this is really starting to get to me. Cathy |
