Default Car Accident

Just thought I'd let everyone know that my cousin, her daughter and my twin
sons were involved in a horrible car accident earlier today, and
unbelievably, no one was seriously hurt. My son Eli had to get some
stitches above his eyebrow, but that's about it. Michelle, phoned me on my
cell and I raced over to the scene only to come upon their vehicle
absolutely mangled and they had to use the jaws of life to get my sons out
of the car. I thought I was going to lose them... I think I'm still in
shock, but someone was watching over them because there were no broken
bones, nothing. They mean so much to me, I don't know what I would have
done had they been taken from me.

It is so wonderful to hear they are ok! I can only imagine the fright that
was. Sending you and the boys a HUGE hug!

Everyone is fine, that's the main thing. Hell of a scare though. Hugs all
round.

I can scarcely imagine what you were going through during those
minutes of not really knowing... ugh, you poor thing. Glad all is
well. What type of vehicle were they in?

WOW! Good thing no one was really hurt!
Almost 1 year ago, it hit me hard that cars can be fixed or replaced, loved
ones cannot. Someone was DEFINITELY looking over you and your family. If
the car was in bad enough shape to use the JOL to get your boys out, it's
amazing that no one was seriously hurt! I can relate to you, in some
distant ways. All I could think of after my accident was that less than
half an hour later, Bran would have been in the car with me, and thinking
about that just makes me sick to my stomach.

Some type of Isuzu (sp?) hatchback. It is of course, a complete write off.

Yeah already today they are doing much better, but they could hardly walk
yesterday so I carried them up and down the stairs, to and from the bathroom
because they would stumble down the hallway and inside I was chuckling but
of course to them it was frustrating. lol

But yeah, today we're going on some errands (Eli is quite concerned about
how his stitches supposedly make him look ugly) *sigh* so we're going to
take a small trip in my car and see how that goes.

Yeah I was in still in shock when I wrote this initial post, because I could
feel that I was detached from things around me, because I had to remain
strong for them. The emergency crews didn't even know I was their mother
because I was calm, cool and collected (I perform well under stress), not
some blubbering, hysterical woman. But when I first came upon the scene my
knees buckled and I thought they were mangled because of the shape the car
was in. But the police officer there grabbed me by the arms and held me up
and told me they needed me to remain calm etc, because they were so afraid.
So something inside me switched on and it wasn't until the next morning that
I cried... and cried and then in the shower, I cried some more. God, I
could have lost them. So yeah, yesterday we were emotionally raw, today
thankfully we are doing great.

Tell him it looks like a wound from back in 'Nam. (Well, that's something my
dad would say, anyways)
And also, going back in a car is definitely a good idea. I know that when
my auntie, years and years ago, ran down this old guy crossing the street,
she was so shaken up and refused to drive. She called my uncle to pick her
up, and he made her drive them home, and although it was so hard for her to
do it, she did it anyways, and she really believes that if she didn't get
right back in that driver's seat, and waited and waited, she would never
have driven again.
After my accident, I was terrified to get into my dad's truck, let alone
drive myself. I just kept seeing that same scene replay over and over in my
mind, and every now and then, I still freak out while turning left or when
oncoming cars are fairly close. It was almost exactly a month before I sat
behind the wheel, and I only did because there was no possible way Wes could
drive 2 cars at the same time (it was when we picked the car up from the
shop and went to return the rental car) Even then, I was so scared, and
told Wes to take the baby with him in the rental car, just because I was
freaking out and thinking the same thing could happen again. He followed
me, and said, although I'm normally a good leader when people follow, it was
the worst leading I had ever done... I slammed on the breaks in the middle
of the intersection as soon as the light turned yellow, slowed down when I
thought the light was going to turn red, and would wait until there was a
good 3 blocks of a break in traffic to turn. Eventually things got better,
and everything is fine, and I do believe my auntie when she said that she
wouldn't have driven again if she didn't get back in the driver's seat right
after... Hell, I waited a month and I was freaking out so much, and driving
all alone didn't make it much better.
Get right back on the horse when you fall off, and it's the only way you'll
be able to keep going... Same goes for cars. Hopefully everything goes well
for you and both boys. I realize, really, there's not too much to fear on
the road if you are cautious and careful.
