GLENS FALLS—The former Warren County probation officer charged with
sexually abusing two teenage boys at his Glens Falls home has pleaded to
two misdemeanor counts of forcible touching.

Bradford Overton, 30, of Glens Falls, had been charged with felony first
degree sexual abuse in addition to multiple misdemeanor charges in
connection with several incidents involving underaged boys.

With his guilty plea, Overton will avoid a state prison term and felony
conviction. He has agreed to serve six months in the Warren County Jail
followed by six years of probation. He will be sentenced May 22 in Glens
Falls City Court.

Overton was first charged in December with misdemeanor counts of
forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly
fondling the buttocks of two boys, aged 15 and 16. After his arrest,
three more young boys had come forward to claim that Overton, who was
also a youth minister with the New Hope Community Church of Glens Falls,
had sexually abused them. He had met the boys through the church’s youth
group.

A 9-year-old boy had also alleged that Overton abused him while he was
working as a caseworker in Warren County’s Child Protective Services,
part of the county Social Services Department. He was working as a
probation officer at the time of his arrest, a position he had held
about six months before he resigned following his arrest.

Police said that Overton told the boy that he would place him in foster
care if he told anyone about the abuse. He was also charged with second
degree coercion and endangering the welfare of a child, both
misdemeanors. The incidents allegedly occurred at the boy’s home during
the winter of 2004-05.

He had been charged with felony sexual abuse for that incident but the
Washington County District Attorney’s office which acted as a special
prosecutor dropped the felony charge due to evidentiary problems which
were not specified.

Overton had denied any contact with the 9-year-old. 5-2-07
