Advice for Dads
I don't care what you read as to how you can help with the pain of
childbirth there is nothing that you can do when your wife or girlfriend is in labour with the pain....I just found that out! |

I certainly wouldn't say that and neither would my husband. We approached childbirth as a team and that helped see us through immensely. Jacqueline |

Troy, I remember feeling that helpless feeling. The mother of my youngest son said gazing into my eyes was very important to her. Todd PS I believe the duration of second stage labor can be significantly reduced by making sure that the obstetrician does not have the woman on her back or semisitting, closing her birth canal up to 30%. This, of course, would significantly reduce the duration of second stage labor pain. I have also heard that many women find that just being on their backs during late second stage causes a lot of pain. It would make sense that the body would make it painful to close the birth canal the "extra" up to 30% at delivery - but then again - some women report being quite comfortable semisitting. Obstetricians are actually lying to cover-up their bizarre birth-canal-closing behavior. For the Four OB Lies (they are whoppers)... I don't know how much men can actually help with the pain specifically, but I can't imagine going through that experience without my husband! Moral/emotional support goes such a long ways during an experience like that. Maybe you had the experience of your wife yelling at you during labor? Blaming you for the situation she is in? I am told I said similar things, but I don't recall any of that... |

I am told I said similar things, but I don't recall any of that... Ahh yes, the all too common "Don't you EVER come near me with that thing again!" experience in the delivery room. Apparently, its the drugs that do it. I've heard from many a dad I know have words to that effect itterated from their loved ones while giving birth. It can, as it seems on for the OP take a big hit to the fathers self esteem, especially when he's seen (/himself) as the protector of his family & partner. |

There are a few things that the father can do to help! First a hospital
is a hard place for baby to come into the world, its very stressful. A calm place is better!!!! And there are massage teqnices that you can do during labor to relax you lady, Helping to releave alot or in some cases almost all the pain. But also keep in mind things that are painful to get makes them worth have and more enjoyable. Best wishes!! Julie MT and mom-to-be |

I am saying that the physical pain the mother goes through cannot be eased
by the father unless he gives the drugs... really when you are in that much pain all the rubbing in the world won't help;-) By the way we had our girl 3 months ago it just took me a while to get this on the keyboard. My wife says it was good for me to help her to the toilet and such but the pain was a different matter. |
