Default update, and leg pain issues

Well, I'm still pregnant. Yeesh, what a past few days! I had fully
convinced myself that I had miscarried. Started bleeding, went to the
hospital, had an ultrasound and betaHCG tests (over three days). Found
out that I was 5 weeks 1 day as of last Sunday (really surprising - I
felt like I was farther along than that!). This indicates that I'm
definitely still not out of the miscarriage woods yet, but my hope is
now back up after the test results, which were completely normal. So,
despite a surprising amount of red blood which basically just *poured*
out of me, there is no sign of anything wrong with the pregnancy yet.
They figure that the bleeding (and spotting which led up to it, and the
clot that eventually came out) were some burst blood vessel which bled
and caused blood to pool for a while. I had no cramps, (and still don't
and never had) so I guess that was a really good sign.

One thing that *has* been hurting, though, is my legs. They frigging
hurt like you wouldn't believe. It's been growing worse every day. I
saw my doc about that, thinking that I was in serious trouble, or
something, but he thinks it's neurological (which can potentially cause
serious trouble, too, IMO). I don't know how the hell I'll get through
8 months of this torture in my legs. I have a hard time walking. Even
my butt hurts. I can't stand sitting, which is a REAL issue for me,
since I spend a lot of time in front of a desk. It's hard to deal with
clothing (can't stand having it touch me), I yell out in pain if my poor
dogs try to sit on my lap... Man, this SUCKS. I would rather have M/S.
At least M/S is likely to go away, whereas this neurological problem
is probably just going to get worse. (heh heh, I just reread what I
wrote and realized that someone could confuse "M/S" with multiple
sclerosis, but you folks all know that I mean morning sickness)

Well, I *will* put up with this, of course. May try to see some sort of
specialist, though, because I don't want to become an invalid, or
something. Sigh... I never thought that I would have a rare problem. :-(

So the thing for me now is to adjust my bedding (that's the only advice
I've received), go for more tests (including another U/S for some reason
- they probably want to make sure that the preg goes as it should), and
then I guess we'll see what happens. I think my doc wants to
investigate the bleeding more thoroughly, so he ordered some more
bloodwork (had bloodwork twice in one day - yikes).

I am glad to hear that the baby is okay. I bet that was a sigh of relief
I hope your leg gets better....maybe some massages and bubble baths
might help
Take care,

My mom has diabetic neuropathy in her legs. She fights serious leg pain
every single day of her life.

The best thing for her has been magnesium.

You can take around 500mg magnesium daily while pregnant as long as you
balance it out with calcium, 2x as much calcium as magnesium.

I would recommend you purchase a supplement that is a mix of calcium &
magnesium (perhaps with a little vitamin D and zinc mixed in for good
measure) and take two doses a day of 500mg calcium/250mg magnesium.

The calcium and other vitamins can only be good for baby! As a pregnant
women you need about 1500-2000mg of calcium a day anyway, and your body
needs half as much magnesium as calcium.

Good luck.

Hearing that has reminded me that my midwife said unless I get leg cramps I
shouldn't take calcium suppliments - as long as I am eating plenty of red
meat, cheese and drinking milk....

Good luck...

Some people are high on calcium to begin with, or have certain
conditions where taking more calcium can be a problem. The red meat is
for iron, btw.

Hmm, thanks. I'll investigate.

I think I need to see someone other than my GP about this, honestly. I
don't think it's something simple that can be ignored. I discovered a
method of relief today - tight wool pants. No kidding. I put them on
as underpants because we've just started into a major cold snap, and my
legs have felt GREAT ever since. They still hurt, but I can walk. Much
of my family is convinced that it's a vein thing. This would fit if
tight pants helped alleviate the symptoms.

Sounds like neuropathy to me. Could be onset because of the pregnancy
hormones. My mother is also fitted with special tight stockings to wear
for her neuropathy. It's about the bad circulation causing disruptions
with the nerve endings, or something.. anyway, the magnesium should help
too!
