Our housing costs over $2k a month,
almost one entire salary, we live on the other.

Oh my word where do you live? I would not pay that much for housing unless
it came with gold ceilings and an automatic fridge filler and a full time
maid... that is 4.5 times more then we pay for rent.

I live in NJ, and our mortgage payment is just shy of of $2k/ month.
A significant portion of that is taxes, about $450 (we pay over 5K per
year in property tax).

Ditto, taxes account for $4-500 per month, actual mortgage is about
$1800 or so.

It's a 1600 sq foot house on 1.7 wooded acres. It's a modest home.

1200 sq foot house 4000 sq foot lot, hour long commute (by bus & train)
for me to work. Had to go that far out to afford anything. A 2 bd condo
in our old neighborhood costs $250k

We're scraping by but we're managing, we got it together enough to buy
our house, we're a hell of a lot better off than a lot of people.
Do you understand now why your comment ****ed me off?

I will assume you ment to respond to me since I dont think Cathy has said
anything wrong, yes I understood why they made you angry. That is why I
apologized, I never realized that people could pay so much monthly for a
place.

Sorry I shouldn't have been so strong in my words, I'm defensive I guess
because I have no choice but to put my child in day-care - no offense
intended and I hope none taken.

I understand. I could think of many reasons to work out of my home and many
days I wish I could have an in home job. If it where not for the fact that
my husband works 3rd shift I would start a home day care here. Our place is
too small for that kind of thing though and he would never get any sleep.
