Default infant scratching head

My 3 mo is scratching on top of her head sometimes. She had cradle cap
before and that cleared out. I'm curious if babies this age know to
scratch if it itches or is it just a reflex?

Thanks.

#2 certainly scratched a lot at 6 months when she had chicken pox.

My 7 month old scratches her face, usually around her eyebrows, when she's
really tired. I have to really stay on top of her nails, or she'll draw
blood. I think its just something she does, not that she's itchy.
Otherwise she'd be scratching all day.

I think babies scratch for pretty much the same reasons
older people do. I think it's best to think of babies as
just like the rest of us in a lot of ways. What's the
difference between an itch and a reflex -- sounds like the
same situation to me.

Regular shampooing of hair and gentle combing of the scalp
help against cradle cap.
