HealthCare and Mother is already married
Anybody have any experience with the healthcare fiasco and child support? In
New York state, apparently, a child's father is responsible for both the mother's and baby's healthcare costs incurred at the hospital during the time of the birth. If the mother goes on Medicare, I think they come after the dad afterwards to reclaim 100% of the costs. Nice, that the state sees the father as being 100% to blame even though they give him 0% control over the situation. Anyway, anyone have any experience or advice in this area? Also, what about if the mother is currently married to a man who is not the father of the baby she is carrying? I've heard that the husband is then the assumed legal father and it requires a court hearing to get the paternity changed. What if she was married for the majority of the pregnancy and then gets the divorce finalized right before the birth? Is he still the legal father? Anyone have any experience with this and/or advice? Thanks, Pronson |

Anyone have any experience with this and/or advice? Sounds like you are pretty well screwed! If they are divorced at the time of birth, then how could he be held responcible? |
