The terminology just bothers me. I don't like the way it is called a
positive test result, when the the risk they give is that low.
She must have been prewarned so that she would be looking for heart
defects and various soft markers for Down Syndrome.


I agree that positive is the wrong word, but if you are going to do such
tests then it's reasonable to have some results flag up being extra
careful and possibly checking some extra things on ultrasound. So with a
result like 1in50, even though it's still a low chance, it is higher
than your abstract chance, unfortunately most prenatal testing is like
that, you get a huge gray area in the middle.
