Help! What Causes a Toddler To Not Speak Any Words!!!!
"Peggy Tatyana" wrote in message
... Well, several people here have been dismissive about this, but I'm glad I listened to my pediatrician, and had my daughter checked by a speech pathologist when she hadn't started saying any words by age 2 1/2. Turned I hope my joke didn't give the impression that I was being dismissive of the subject. I think that it would be very important to have a toddler age child who doesn't speak at all evaluated by a professional. Best, Ann |

listened to my pediatrician, and had my daughter checked by a speech pathologist when she hadn't started saying any words by age 2 1/2. Turned out she had something called "verbal apraxia," As one whose child turned out *not* to have a problem, I'm still glad I had him checked, too. The evaluation was fun for him and quite interesting to watch. I can't see any down side to having the child checked out. The benchmark they look for at age two is around 50 words and starting to put two-word sentences together, by the way. --Helen |

I have a friend who is the youngest of 11. He didn't even attempt to walk until he was 3. His parents took him to doctors, had all the tests done, etc. to no avail. Two days after the second-youngest started school, he got up and walked like he'd been doing it all along. Apparently, he'd just never felt the need--his older brothers and sisters always carried him where he wanted or brought him whatever he pointed at. Susan |
