LOL.. that was awesome Kat! I bet that felt good. :-)

Damn straight it did!
She called again yesterday, I believe it was. She actually asked how
many fish were dead. I told her how many were dead, and also how my
other poor loach is kind of half dead. She said that when she gets
her baby cheque (the child tax benefit) that she will pay me back for
the fish. Maybe she will, maybe she won't. I really don't know, but
I still do doubt it, as it seems that her cable TV and cable phone
seem to even come before her rent. Quite honestly, there was one point
where I had to cut my cable TV entirely and also every option (the
call display, call waiting, etc.,) off my phone line and go with just
a basic, plain and simple telephone line, BECAUSE I didn't have the
extra cash to throw around. I now do have a little extra money to
have all the bells and whistles on the phone, yet I've decided a basic
phone line that rings when someone calls and has a dial tone on it
when I pick it up is more than good enough. Sure, we've gone with the
digital cable, but ONLY because it's $1 more a month on top of what we
were paying before. We also do have enough money to make it through
rent, bills, food and all that, plus extra cash left over every pay
cheque.
I'm hoping she comes up with something to replace the fish... Even if
she doesn't want to just hand me X amount of cash over, I'll even
offer for her to call around to different fish stores/suppliers and
get a price on the fish that I had... I obviously don't expect I'll
get the same fish back (size and all that) and they do go up in value
as they get older and bigger, and I have a few fish that have jumped
in size from starting off at around an inch or two that are now a good
5-6 inches in size.
Either way, if she's willing to go shopping with me to replace the
fish, or if she wants to take my word for it or wants a list of the
fish and to call around herself, I would, in all honesty, just be
happy enough if she offered to pay for it and even went so far as to
do it. She said herself that she'll pay for the fish since it was her
son who caused their unfortunate deaths. lol
I really do feel good. Maybe she'll cut back on the smoking and cable
tv to cover the fish! LOL

Listen to yourself. You're going to bend over backwards to help her
with this situation. Stop that. She either should replace the fish,
at the size they were, or what's the point in having her do it at all?
Don't let her do something half ass because you're willing to settle.

Christine

Then you figure I should hand her a bill of what I actually pay to
replace the fish (at about the same size they were before being killed)
or should I give her a price of what the particular fish goes for at
that particular size and tell her how much it will cost her and then go
out and buy myself the fish? I'll assume that I'll have more dead fish
to deal with if I expect her to go out on her own with a list of the
fish and sizes and cart them around on the bus...

Give her an estimate. Come up with 3 quotes of the same type of fish and
how much each place listed them as, at the size they died at if that's
possible, then YOU buy the fish. This way though, she'll see you mean
business.

Christine

TSK TSK TSK you guys are horrid.... NOOOOOOOOOOOoooooo this is NOT xKATx's
responsibility it's the fish murder's MOMS job to get the quotes etc... I
think xKATx is busy enough with her home and family why inconvenience HER
when she didn't do anything? No way in hell... xKATx YOU tell the woman
where you purchased the fish originally... Give her the names of the types
of fishies that were murdered and the size... Supply her with all
pertinent information... Then tell her to use her expensive phone and the
phone book yellow pages and get the prices...

lol @ expensive phone comment haha... I know a couple of these fish are hard
to find around here, and 4 of them are as common as water, and only a few
bucks each. I had to order some in, but at least I didn't have to pay for
special order I do have a list of all the fish, and I probably do have
the bills for them stashed away, but again, the fish have tripled at least
in size and gone up in price.

You guys are horrible at this being kind thing... Bend over backward to
guide her but don't help her... Her kid killed em it's entirely up to HER
to find and replace the creatures...

Kill her with kindness but do not do this for her... make her do it on her
own... DO offer to drive her over to the fish place so she can pay for the
fish on baby bonus day... Explain to her ever so sweetly that you do have
errands to do that day and you don't mind taking her to the fish store of
her choice... Do not make a shopping expedition with her... If you end up
taking her to the grocery store make sure you buy a can of beans only
(tell her this is all you can afford - you're so strapped for cash)...
Then after you drop the woman off at her house you can go back to the
grocery store or wherever and fill your needs

Funny, kind of... Problem with driving her around is that I can't. It's
just not possible. She has not one brat, but a brat plus a baby, which
makes for more fun in a car with 5 seats/seat belts and one of the back seat
belts won't retract and is pulled all the way out. Dad will get around to
fixing that, but no one is in a huge hurry. Where I go, pretty much both
B and A go with me. That leaves for just one seat left in the car, and it
has an airbag so no children can be in it
The store that I made my purchases at are both in this area (where she and I
both live in) but maybe I can work something out with her, and, actually, I
probably could make do with a small shopping trip for her, and maybe not a
can of beans, but maybe some Kraft Dinner - but the cheap stuff, and only if
it's on sale

Won't that be a bit of a pain in the ass if Kat has to drive this chic to
get the fish? I would rather have the money and get them myself.

Present her with the quotes, get the money, get the fish.

And if the fish are so hard to find, even if you get them smaller then they
were, don't charge her more.

Think of it this way, your new fish will be younger and live longer then the
dead fish. You are getting more fish life for free.(well, that is IF she
does actually give you money)

This is sort of a ridiculous thing, all this over fish. I do realize however
that some fish are very expensive.

Haha yea, once a year? Psh. :P

The only reason for me intending to find fish of similar size to the ones
that I had are only because these are aggressive fish I have. If I toss in
fish that are around the same size as the other fish in the tank and the
fish that died, I won't have problems of smaller fish being eaten. I had
tossed in 3 albino oscars (about as aggressive as they come when it's fish)
and they were eaten alive by a stupid Jack Dempsey cichlid that was not
really any bigger than the oscars.
I wouldn't even bother putting in tiny little fish, but I would try maybe
half an inch or so max smaller, otherwise it would be nothing but a waste of
energy, time and money, since they'd definitely end up as very expensive
live fish food!
I wouldn't expect her to pay any more than whatever the cost is. I will
give her a list of the fish and the sizes they are. If she would like to
call around and get the absolute cheapest prices, that wouldn't bother me at
all. It's not really the money, it's the fish. Heck, if she could even
find them for free, that's even better!
