Default Amoxycillin Question

I'm told that 500 mg Amoxycillin is OK to take whilst bf. My question is
how much comes through in the breastmilk and will it be likely to give DD
any side effects?
DD has had this drug before for an ear infection, but got diarrhoea and was
taken off the drug early. I have been putting off taking a course to clear
up my rosacea, but now think I'm going to have to take it as the cream
('Rozex' - metronidazole) and Karen's suggestion of using breastmilk is just
not clearing it up.
Does Hales say anything about this?

TIA
Amanda

Certainly, it's a rather old antibiotic. Amoxicillin, like most penicillins,
is an L1. It is popular for pediatric use. It's approved by the AAP for use
in BF moms. 500mg is the low end of the dose range. Half-life is 1.7 hours.
Usual GI warnings for adults apply, but none reported for the nursling. Do
remember that it will compromise the efficacy of oral contraceptives.

Thanks for that - I'm really only worried about it affecting DD's bowels if
I take it, given that she had such a bad time when she was taking it.
Thanks

Default Amoxycillin Question

I have just been prescribed Amoxcycillin 250 by my dentist for a wisdom
tooth infection (yet again), and he didn't ask me if I was breastfeeding,
so I informed him as he was about to give me another med which is bad while
breastfeeding.
It's always been fine in the past, but I have notice babies going to the
toilet more often before.

I'm sorry - but being a Dane this tickled my language giggle muscles. Do you
say "going to the toilet" about babies? Mine always used diapers :-)

Yep we do.
And being a Brit we call them nappies not diapers.

Default Amoxycillin Question

Apologies for top posting.

Thanks everyone .,.. I'm gearing myself up to take the course now (I really
hate taking medication of any type). It sounds like DD shouldn't suffer
the diarrhoea that she got from taking the drug herself - my main worry.
At least I know it will clear up my rosacea which is stubbornly hanging
around despite applications of both medicated cream and breastmilk
Cheers
Amanda

I don't understand your question?

I am taking the Amoxycillin, but before my dentist prescribed it, he was
about to give me an anitbiotic which is the worst you can use while nursing.
(so he told me).I had to tell him I was nursing as he didn't ask, so he
quickly re-wrote the prescription.

Thanks - to be completely correct we call them 'bleer' but that's at totally
different story.
