Mum jailed in custody battle
A MOTHER-of-two is behind bars for defying court orders in a tug-of-love
fight with her ex-partner. In what family law experts said was a rare case, the woman, 31, was given a heartbreaking choice by the Federal Magistrates' Court - let the father to see his children or go to jail. http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegrap...rom=public_rss |

Where is the problem with this? I think it's more about the rarity of the thing. Now, if I were involved in a dispute like this, I'd much prefer to see my child than to resort to sending anybody to jail (let's not force the child to pick sides), but if it's bad enough, sometimes you have to bring down the law. I mean, hasn't child support taught us that? And at least in this case, her being in jail won't degrade her ability to be a mother when she comes out, whereas in child support, jailing a person seriously hinders their ability to pay and the amount that they can pay. |

Jailing anyone under normal circumstances sets them back years before they can financially recover in terms of getting a job and a affording a new place to live. This is impossible with arrearages on the person's plate too! |

Criminals should go to jail. She is a child abuser, willing to harm her child
emotionally to spite the father. "DB" wrote in message t... "John Meyer" wrote in whereas in child support, jailing a person seriously hinders their ability to pay and the amount that they can pay.
