new babies and old friends
The tenth month! Postpartum is definitely a part of pregnancy, so here you go: All our new moms, if you're still reading here and haven't migrated over to misc.kids.breastfeeding or misc.kids yet, how are you doing? Lochia tapering off, or telling you to take it a little easier? Are you getting out of the house, or snuggling in with the baby? How's your support network? Don't hesitate to talk to your OB if you're feeling bit blue -- it's *very* common, and there's no reason for anyone to suffer (the vast majority of antidepressants are fine to take while breastfeeding, for example). Still getting the hang of all this newbaby stuff? How's motherhood treating you so far? How are you feeling about your birth experience? Write everything down, it disappears so quickly! And not-so-new moms, whether you're a beloved member or lurking or skimming or occasionally checking in, how is everything going with your families? One of the most valuable part of this board, I think, is the number of not-pregnant women who stay in the community, whether to give advice, follow friends' progress, live vicariously, or cheer each other on. So how are you all doing? |

And not-so-new moms, whether you're a beloved member or lurking or skimming or occasionally checking in, how is everything going with your families? I popped over here just to check up on some familiar names. Congrats to all the new moms and those who are expecting again! Some of you may remember me from last year -- my twin daughters Cassie and Olivia were born at 26 weeks in April 2003, due in July. They came home from the hospital in July after 14 (Cassie) and 16 (Olivia) long, difficult weeks in the NICU. Despite her grade IV IVH, Olivia is doing wonderfully. She is having spotty developmental delays (at 14 months/10.5 adjusted, she can pull to stand but not sit up for very long) but she is making amazing progress with the help of her physical, developmental, and occupational therapists. She is a big girl (75th percentile for height, 50th for weight for her actual age) and is very happy, laughing and babbling all the time. Cassie is almost walking, and we are convinced she will be a gymnast; she loves to hang upside down, and she's very petite (10th %-tile for height, 3rd for weight). She loves to play "tag" with her sister, although she prefers being chased to doing the chasing. She is quite the mama's girl, and her whole face lights up when she smiles. We managed to get through the winter with only two minor colds each, which was quite a relief. Despite their diagnoses of chronic lung disease, the ped says that if we can get them to age 2 with no hospitalizations or nebulizer treatments, we can basically consider them normal, healthy kids. Only 10 more months to go :-) I'm doing pretty well -- just a busy mom with twins. I finally stopped pumping last month after 13 months -- difficult but satisfying work. Now, I just spend my days trying to keep them from killing each other (accidentally, of course ;-) and keeping up with all the therapy appointments. If you want to see pics of the girls, check out http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/c/cassieandolivia/. I hope everyone is doing well! -- Paula Mom to Olivia and Cassie (b. 4/8/03) ^Grace^ (b. 5/16/02 d. 5/17/02) and ^Adam^ (b/d. 5/17/02) |

Hmmm...maybe should vary the subject lines a bit, as it seems to confuse some news servers. And not-so-new moms, We're doing great, looking forward to the end of the school year. This year has been somewhat busier than I would have liked, so having fewer deadlines sounds good to me. On the other hand, I may well be eating those words when the kids are at each other's throats by the afternoon (my kids don't get bored--they just get on each other's nerves when they're together too much). Genevieve is eleven months as of yesterday, and it's too darned soon. I'm not ready to be done with babies :-( She's so very adorable--nearly walking, nearly talking, oodles of fun. She's very social, always looking at people and waving to them. She's very sad when people don't wave back at her. Colin is a wild child at the moment, but he's doing very well. He's having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that the world doesn't always do things his way, but he sure manages to have a lot of fun. Adrian has been an absolute doll for the most part. He's fabulous with his little sister, he's been doing *great* at school, he's been giving 110 percent at his activities, and he's just usually a joy to be around (except on occasion when his temper gets the best of him). I'm so proud of him lately; he's really matured a lot. Best wishes, Ericka |

Logic/reasoning is actually starting to work sometimes with her. Scary how fast it all goes, I have found especially with having more than one kid. I can't imagine being done with kids either, but I am going to work on Dave to have another in a few years. We'll see how the drama unfolds:-P Kat mama to Maggie 11/03/01 and Will 02/10/04 |
