I didn't know if that was universal, or due to a blood clotting
condition I have. Will you have weekly appts after 36 wks? -kim IIRC at 36 weeks you go weekly, at 32 weeks it's every 2 weeks. Hhmm, I seem to go every 3-4 weeks. I know at the beginning I got the choice of being seen every 4 or every 6 weeks, I chose every 6. It doesn't really matter since we already have the c-section date anyway. |

In people's experiences, when do they typically want to to vaginal exams, i would imagine that would be much later, if at all. Just curious! My provider would have started at 36 weeks, but I declined and didn't have an internal exam until I was already in labor at 39 weeks. I didn't have one until I was well into labor and was told I was fully dilated. I would highly recommend that route :-) -- Em mama to L-baby, 8.5 months old |

I am 30 wks along, and this Monday I start having appts every 2 weeks instead of every month. I was just wondering what to expect. Is it still the quickie get the heartbeat, measure the fundal ht, weight, blood pressure and how are you feeling kind of thing, or is there more? In people's experiences, when do they typically want to to vaginal exams, i would imagine that would be much later, if at all. Just curious! I didn't have one until 41 weeks and they needed to see what was what because I was to be induced (high blood pressure, protein in urine, otherwise it would have been 42 weeks). I'm in the UK and the midwife never even mentioned doing an internal at earlier appointments so I didn't even have the choice to decline ;o) Lindsay Little Dude - 24th March 2004 |

I will feel very free to say no to anything I think is pointless/potentially harmful! Our Bradley childbirth instructor keeps telling us about all the germs that can be introduced in a vaginal exam! -kim Ok, here's a dumb question: how are vaginal exams any worse than making love for introducing germs? I'd think it would be about the same risk or probably better, unless you and your DH are using condoms, and no other body parts get near there.... Or do people just completely give up sex by then? (This is my first, so I really don't know how the whole love-making thing will be as I get bigger/further along). I've been curious about this since I started hearing talk on this newsgroup about declining internal exams. I can understand not wanting to strip for an essentially pointless exam, but I'm not convinced that germs are really an issue... --Elit. #1 due 9/20/2004 |

Ok, here's a dumb question: how are vaginal exams any worse than making love for introducing germs? It depends on what germs you're talking about. Typically, your household germs and your spouse's germs are more friendly than some of the germs you'd find in a doctor's office or hospital. In terms of giving your own germs a free ride closer to the cervix, they're not a lot different, which is why sex is forbidden in certain situations. The risk is also greater if your membranes have ruptured (after which sex is also generally discouraged). Best wishes, Ericka |
