Huge oversupply
"Lina" wrote in message . cable.rogers.com...
I've noticed that I have tons of milk left over after Alena feeds. I haven't been pumping at all, I don't want this to last, but it's not lessening at all. Any suggestions? It takes 48 hours for supply to decrease. Have you been a little engorged a few times in the last couple of days? That's what's going to decrease your supply. Also, to decrease supply, make sure to "finish the first breast first." Doctors will tell you to nurse 10-15 minutes on one breast, then switch to the other. What they don't tell you is that this practice is called "switch nursing," and it's designed to increase milk supply. Let the baby stay on the first breast she nurses on until she just comes off the breast on her own. If she still wants more, give the other breast. Or, give her whichever seems to have more in it! This helps your supply stay in check, and also allows the baby to get more hindmilk, which is like a thick milkshake compared to the foremilk, which is more like skim milk. --Pam C |

Huge oversupply
it can be normal to have major oversupply that never settles, my mum had
this with my younger sister, initially she'd only have to bring the baby near the breast for it to squirt everywhere, making it very difficult for my sis to nurse, in the end the only solution for her was to pump from each breast before a feed, she recalls she got 4oz from each breast several times a day! She just had to dump it as she had to use for it, but if this is the way you have to go, you might be able to donate it? ----------- Anne Rogers |

I had oversupply with Hunter until he was about 3 months old. I was just always super full. It went away on its own but I still had abundent milk. Leaked a lot until 8/9 months and became very engorged if I missed a feed without pumping. I remember being at a meeting when he was 13 months. I went 5 hours without nursing (he was asleep over lunch), had no pump, and got engorged and leaked. Bleck. I did not have those problems with #2 which was nice but I couldn't pump enough for him either. -- Nikki Mama to Hunter (4) and Luke (2) |

I'm constantly full, no matter what I do. I'm like your mom was. I just have to hold Alena and I start dripping. When she sucks, I spray from the other breast. I've been giving her one side at a time, until she's done, and I'm still full of milk all the time. Maybe I'll star pumping, freezing and donating. |
