Swelling & pain in one leg only

A woman in my prenatal class, due in 2-3 weeks, is having really
severe swelling and pain in her left leg only. Doctors ruled out
deep vein thrombosis (by ultrasound?), but otherwise offered no
helpful advice. The swelling and pain got much worse overnight.
Should she be very concerned? What should she do to relieve the
swelling and/or pain?

Don't know. If it's that much worse, I'd go back to the docs.

She should be going back to the doctor!!

My husband had a galloping infection (cellulitis) in one leg that
started off like that. If its getting worse, she needs to go back to
the doctor.

They can and do miss things, and pain and swelling in one leg like
that can be quite serious.

I would certainly have her go back to her doc asap. is her leg cold, numb or
tingly?

She is now in the hospital. The pain and swelling continued
to get worse. She had been checked for a deep vein thrombosis
(a blood clot obstructing a large vein in her leg), with none
found, but her progression is consistent with one. I don't
know if they found it or not, but she is now being treated to
dissolve the (presumed) clot slowly and safely.

is her leg cold, numb or tingly?

Nope. I don't know about temperature, but I would assume hot.
It was very swollen, very painful, and becoming purple.

We're both due in a few weeks; I am wishing the best for her.
Compared to hers, my various pregancy related "problems", all
entirely normal, are truly insignificant.
