Good, easy website or book for little girl hairstyles?
DD has shoulder length, fairly thick hair with a slight wave, and is a
dinosaur addict. She's started requesting dinosaur hairdos. I can manage creating tails, various numbers of "horns" (pigtails) and so on, but I admit that some of her requests have me saying "Let me look that up". I'm hoping that if I see some different hairstyles, appropriate for a 3 yr old, I'll get ideas sparking on how to create "Pachycephalosaurus caps" and "Dimetrodon sails"! |

We just do Stephanie's ponytail from the book of the same name. -- Dorothy There is no sound, no cry in all the world that can be heard unless someone listens .. The Outer Limits |

Are you really sure you want to go down that endless road? The statements "No" and "Mom can't do that, sorry" and "You can't always get what you want" will serve you very well during the next decade and a half. If you are determined to be a slave to your childs whims, ask your hairdresser. They've heard everything. |

If you are determined to be a slave to your childs whims, ask your hairdresser. They've heard everything. I don't think that's fair. Wanting to give a child something she wants does not automatically make one a slave to one's child's whims. Don't you ever do anything for your child that your child requests? Does that make you a slave? It sounds like OP is taking great pleasure in pursuing this hairdo adventure. If she was doing it as a chore out of a sense of duty and obligation, I might agree with you. As it stands, I see no problem in going all out as she intends. |

As it stands, I see no problem in going all out as she intends. The way I see it is that by playing along with her fantasy, I'm getting her hair up in ways that are cooler and better for play for her, easier for me because then her hair isn't as tangled, without her fussing and complaining. And given the number of princesses, little mermaids, faeries, spidermen, and ninja turtles I've taught in my preschool music classes, it seems pretty normal for little kids to like to jump in and out of characters. For my DD, her current interest, and the characters she likes, are dinosaurs. But her toy dinosaurs have parties, go to prince Charmasaurus's ball, go to dinosaur school, play Supersaurus, and play soccer. Her wanting "horns" or a "tail" when I do her hair seems to fit in with that, and I don't see it any more different than my friend's preschooler wanting her Dora shirt or hair clip. I doubt seriously that she'll still be asking for dinosaur hairdos even in a year. I'm not going to buy the entire Imaginext section at Toys R Us, even though she has a long wishlist of dinos she wants, and I'm not going to redecorate her room in dinosaurs. But I don't think calling her ponytail a "pterosaur crest" is a big deal. |
