Default Boy/Girl Anatomy - Ack! They are asking!!!

my 4 year old boys once saw me with a tampon. They already know that girls
don't have penises and mommy is a girl. I realized that they didn't really
understand until one day after they saw the tampon they told my dh that
"mommy's penis broke"

To piggyback this post....

What do you tell a 4 yr old about Tampons and their usage? I've just mumbled
something along the lines of "Those are for Mama to use." Pathetic, isn't it?
I'm afraid if I tell them the truth they'll be freaked out. Is 4 too young or
is there an age-appropriate way to tell them? I'm very open about everything
else with them, but I just can't seem to find the right way to deal with this
issue.

Help Please!

Vagina.

Or "bagina".

Either way, this is not a real problem!

Okay Joe, I started to reply thinking that you were probably a troll. But

I
stopped myself and decided to google you. Seems that you have posted a

lot
on usenet and from anything recent, it doesn't seem that you're trollish.
And, you've even posted once before on this board about infant gas.

Looks like your kids are very young, so for you to say this "isn't a
problem" is premature... unless, of course you have older children. In

that
case, I still wouldn't agree with you.

Also, it seems that you didn't read my entire post, because I clearly

stated
that "vagina" was *not* the appropriate term here. We are talking about
urination and nothing else. I think I speak for all of us females here...
we don't pee via our vaginas.

I was going to blast you for being insensitive, but I won't. You will

know
what I'm talking about soon enough and I hope you revisit this thread at
that time... because I think you'll need the advice too!

I'm a male who is a parent of one 2.5 year old girl and 2 1- month old twin
boys.

Yes, I'm aware of the vagina/urethra thang. But you know? We're trying to
teach her that body parts are not dirty or to be hidden or treated like
they're to be avoided. And vagina is good enough for her until she takes
biology. Plus, it's a sight easier to say than urethra for a 2 year old.

Why you would assume I was a troll *first* scares me.

Default Boy/Girl Anatomy - Ack! They are asking!!!

my 4 year old boys once saw me with a tampon.

My poor boys have seen me way too many times with various female hygeine
products. Poor dears. But you gotta do what you gotta do - and when you have
to take care of business and you've got a kid with you in a stall, they're
gonna get an education! It's particularly embarrassing when they ask about
your diaper, in typical loud child voice.

Sorry I don't have any advice for you looneybird. Just have boys here and they
haven't asked me about where I pee from. They just know that I sit when I do
it and I don't have to point anything down! They know the "proper" term for
their body parts, but I call it the pee-pee or their private area. You could
just tell them you don't know the right term and look it up together in the
encyclopedia or the internet (pre-screened, of course).

Gummy Joe....if it was not pointed out that you had posted in the post
respectively, I would have assumed you were a troll also, with your
"vagina, bagina" post. IMO, it was a little off-colored. You are not a
regular poster, therefore unknown to most of us. Just my take on the
"troll" thing.
