Missing child found in shot croc

April 22, 2007

BEIJING, China (AP) -- A crocodile shot to death in south China during
a search for a missing 9-year-old student was found to contain the
child's remains, the official Xinhua News Agency said.

The crocodile was shot Saturday in a park in Beihai, a city in the
Guangxi region, by investigators looking for the missing child.
Investigators confirmed that human remains found in the reptile were
that of the student, the report said.

The child, surnamed Liu, disappeared Friday after Liu and three other
children climbed over the fence around a pool in the park that had
been used to stage crocodile shows, Xinhua said.

"The children shot the animals with catapults and beat them with
wooden sticks," the agency said. "One of the irritated crocodiles bit
Liu's clothes and dragged him into water, where he was eaten by a
swarm of crocodiles."

Snipers used pork to lure the reptiles from the pool on Saturday and
shot the first one that crawled ashore, the report said.

No other details were given, and it wasn't immediately clear what
would happen to the other crocodiles.

Local residents said the park's owner had hired a keeper for the
crocodiles, but it was not clear why the man was not at the site when
the students broke in, the report said.

The manager and the keeper were being held by police.

It's the manager's fault? the keeper's fault? Not the school guardian's? not
the parents for teaching the boys about the dangers of crocs - and about not
throwing objects at living things? Appears things are no different in China
than they are elsewhere in the world where children are always right. And
then elders wonder why the world is going to H---?? Being a parent is a
privilege and a responsibility - which way too many parents forget when it
comes time to deal with the consequences of the children's actions. Poor
dead croc who did nothing more than be a croc.

I agree. Parenting is the most important job in the world and there
should be strict requirements. Based on the poor job most parents are
doing, which is directly correlated with the poor state the world is
in, I think at the minimum people should be forced to have a four-year
bachelor degree in parenting before being allowed to breed, be
required to take a certification test (make it difficult to pass, like
the CPA exam or law or medical exams), and have to take continuing
education and pass tests every few years. If they meet all these
requirements then they are issued a Breeding License, which has to be
renewed every five years after passing practical and theory
exams...sort of like a driving test, only more difficult. It seems
the driving tests any idiot can pass them nowadays. Make it as hard
as possible. Then the population of the world will drop drastically
but the quality of said population would improve dramatically.

While these are interesting suggestions, who would you propose to
enforce such certification? In the United States we can't even keep our
borders closed from those teen mothers who cross with five in tow and one in
the belly! We actually pay the mothers to have more so they get additional
health, education, and welefare benefits. How would regulate this quantity
and quality of breeding?

What's the matter? Afraid that you or your parents wouldn't have passed the

Who gives a rat's ass? You know, I used to care about the
environment, even though I always knew I never wanted kids, never
wanted to get married. I wanted to be like the lady doctor who lived
down the street. She had a ****ing cool house and a dog and lived
really well. But I couldn't pass math or chem.

But now, since the breeders feel entitled to overpopulate, why should
I care? Most of them will still be alive when the ocean rising has
forced most of the world's population to try and find a place to live
on higher ground. And who wants more people on less land?

So The Children now have a horrible, bleak future. Let them figure
out that the reason their lives are so nasty, brutish, and short is
because of overbreeding; after all, children don't ask to be born.
Let them ask their breeders why they were so stupid, when the only
real choice we have to help "save the world" is to reduce the casualty
list, ie, STOP BREEDING. It should be voluntary, and rare, when women
choose to birth.

I quite agree. That's a rather Modest Proposal, honestly.
