to, you'd have seen that chlorine in more toxic then mercury. As for
the % makeup, that is easy:

MW Chlorine: 35.453
MW Sodium: 22.989770

Now, I know you're scientifically challenged, so I'll lead you through
this highly complex math.

Table salt (NaCl) has a molecular weight of 1 sodium atom + 1 chlorine
atom. That would be 22.989770 + 35.453 = 58.44277 g/mol

To calculate the % mass chlorine makes up in the molecule you divide the
total mass of the salt molecule by the mass of the chlorine atom, then
times that by 100:

(35.453/58.44277) * 100: 60.6627%

Maybe you think that mercury is more poisonous that chlorine. If so,
why was chlorine used as a poison gas in WW1? Why didn't the Germans
just put mercury into the enemy's water supply? It would have been
